Dan Green: Cities in Crisis: 1930s-1950s

http://citiesincrisis.blogspot.com/2011/02/1930s-1950s.html

Thursday, February 17, 2011. Lewis Mumford is a historian and philosopher born in 1895 in Queens, NY. When he was 44 years old he created a film called "The City". A narrator's voice is heard, explaining the beauty of this "new" type of life. I would like to highlight some of things he says and offer my comments on them. Just watch us grow, the scales wont hold us soon.". I found this to be ironic due to increasing obesity in America. A little gossip, or a friendly hand is good for the complexion". This ...

Dan Green: Cities in Crisis: Master Builders

http://citiesincrisis.blogspot.com/2011/02/jane-jacobs-grandma-youre-glad-isnt.html

Monday, February 21, 2011. Part 2 - Chapter 8: The Need for Mixed Primary Uses. S "Long Exposure" series. The Lower Manhattan Waterfront. Jacobs theorizes that if a district is calculated and specialized for one function will be unable to provide what is necessary if it is confined to that one function. This is due to the fact that the district will only be used during specific times and because of its lack of diversity, at all other times will be empty. Jacobs talks about the Central Business District (...

Dan Green: Cities in Crisis: The Navigators

http://citiesincrisis.blogspot.com/2011/02/navigators.html

Saturday, February 5, 2011. While thinking about the flaneur I realized that what is most interesting about the flaneur is not the city they exhibit, but the flaneur themselves. It seems that Poe too found the flaneur themselves to be interesting. Who are the flaneurs what does their life consist of. I find myself asking this question about a lot of people i see on the street. wondering, "what do they do at night? Or "what does their apartment look like? Perhaps it is our natural inclination to be voyeur...

Is a great example of the flaneur in the car. In one regard, Ruscha has reenacted the flaneur experience while driving down the Sunset Strip. By having the camera automatically make the pictures as Ruscha was driving, this group of photographs is a documentation of observing the city through the car. Simple templ...

Dan Cities Blog: New York, Beside Itself

http://dancities.blogspot.com/2011/04/new-york-beside-itself.html

Sunday, April 17, 2011. New York, Beside Itself. There is very little documentation from Joan Jonas's Delay Delay. A performance done in 1972. There is one image, however, in particular that has captured the attention of Burton and has changed her view of Manhattan ever since. I think that what Burton is describing is that through Jonas's portrayal and use of Manhattan, Burton's view of the city is altered. The image that Jonas created is considered in experiencing the actual city. Tom Burr, Deep Purple.

Great Wall - Sections off China from the World. Guangzhou wall - Sectioning off the City. Courtyard Houses - Sectioning off Private Life. Xu Zhen - In Just The Blink Of An Eye. Tuesday, April 19, 2011. Amish Country and Quilts . of course! We loved the embossed tiara. Design here as it reminds us that we can be Prince and Princesses (heirs to all the blessings), the meandering pathway - life and the gospel dependant upon how difficult we make it for ourselves, and the log cabin with the hearth being the central focus (heart) of the home, as the family should be. parsnipfeet | Hello, darling! Would you like ketchup with that?

Would you like ketchup with that? June 8, 2012. 2011 for me was marked by noises, garish colours, fears and hopes; a pyrolytic fusion of new experiences and a lust for excitement. Much to the (overtaxed) agony of my family, I was out most nights, late and reeking of debauchery and city streets. People often tell me that they find me very much changed in every possible way; they do this without fail. I’ll leave you with a terrific song, girls and boys. It’s Eminem’s ‘Lose Yourself’. ;P.
