Altadena Hiker: March 2014
http://altadenahiker.blogspot.com/2014_03_01_archive.html
Karin Bugge view from the trail. Sunday, March 30, 2014. Evanston Inn: Don't give up the ghost. I say this as a friend, so take it in the spirit it's given. Yes, yes, we are all responsible for our own lives and our own choices. But honey, since you started keeping company with that feller of yours, that development corporation,. Anyway, I suppose you'd claim the usual excuses. "I walked into a door," or "I fell down the stairs.". Within six months we'll have five floors of beige and orange condos. I hav...

Altadena Hiker: December 2014
http://altadenahiker.blogspot.com/2014_12_01_archive.html
Karin Bugge view from the trail. Monday, December 29, 2014. I end every day of my life with some nagging question or other. According to recent studies, insomnia kills, so this nocturnal nagging-question thing is a bad habit, probably on par with smoking or drugs but without any short-term euphoria to recommend it. Anyway, what I've learned about local government, it's always open season on open space - on nature of the natural kind if it exists within city limits. And the deck is stacked. Think ...Still...

Altadena Hiker: Cat Tales
http://altadenahiker.blogspot.com/2015/04/cat-tales.html
Karin Bugge view from the trail. Tuesday, April 21, 2015. I have no experience with cats, other than a front-porch-here's-a-bit-of-kibble kind of friendship. We visited the vet today. Well, first it took ten minutes to squish Bro into a borrowed transport box. I felt horrible about that; he felt worse. A chatty chap, he was silent as the grave on our road trip. The first thing that sprang to mind was "Do no harm." Did I do harm? If we saw the truck in time, could we make a break for it? Oh you dont know ...

Altadena Hiker: April 2014
http://altadenahiker.blogspot.com/2014_04_01_archive.html
Karin Bugge view from the trail. Wednesday, April 23, 2014. When I first met Linda, I had a job training hundreds of people who didn't want any part of what I had to train. Truth be told, I didn't want any part of what I had to train, either. There were better ways to make a living, but I didn't have my thumb on that pulse at the moment. Most, however, just argued and gave me scathing end of the session evaluations. "She thinks she's so great, but she's not," will probably nag me through life. I heard fr...

Altadena Hiker: January 2015
http://altadenahiker.blogspot.com/2015_01_01_archive.html
Karin Bugge view from the trail. Saturday, January 31, 2015. I went outside this morning. The foothills all the way from La Crescenta to Sierra Madre, top to bottom, were draped with a black cloth. Remarkably, this massive project had required just four men, two dogs, and one night. I interviewed one of the men. Tall and blond, he didn't seem the least bit tired, just very hungry. I gave him half of my salmon sandwich. Me: Did the state pay for this? Isn't it terribly expensive? Me: What about the dogs?

Altadena Hiker: March 2015
http://altadenahiker.blogspot.com/2015_03_01_archive.html
Karin Bugge view from the trail. Wednesday, March 18, 2015. Rain first, then cats and dogs. The cat now visits and comes inside whenever an alien substance falls from the sky. (In California, we've taken to calling fog, drizzle; drizzle, rain; and rain a flood.). So who do you think is winning the battle of wits in this household? Hint: It's not me.). And it's not him, either. Tuesday, March 17, 2015. Happy St. Patrick's Day and pass the guacamole. So what's in this week's ad? Salmon and turkey burgers.

Altadena Hiker: And not a drop to drink
http://altadenahiker.blogspot.com/2015/05/and-not-drop-to-drink.html
Karin Bugge view from the trail. Thursday, May 7, 2015. And not a drop to drink. I received a notice from my local water board today. All residents in my area are required to reduce water use by 20 percent. It hurts to wake up and leave the dream behind. Sure, we can still grow things, twig-like plants that know how to shrivel without dying, and practice this trick for most of their lives. Still, what are you going to do? May 7, 2015 at 5:09 PM. You had me at shower with friends. May 7, 2015 at 6:26 PM.

Altadena Hiker: Inflation
http://altadenahiker.blogspot.com/2015/05/inflation.html
Karin Bugge view from the trail. Wednesday, May 13, 2015. I wonder in which decade the expression "I feel like a million bucks" lost its currency. Not the 70s. My mom used to say it all the time. Well, not all the time, but whenever her kids got good grades or hadn't been arrested. I suppose back then, a million bucks made people sit up and take notice; a million bucks threw some serious weight around. I've totally forgotten, because I'm still stuck on the pastry fork, and my gaffe. When I was consulting...

Altadena Hiker: July 2014
http://altadenahiker.blogspot.com/2014_07_01_archive.html
Karin Bugge view from the trail. Wednesday, July 23, 2014. MY PSA for the week: The IRS Phone Scam. Phone message I received this morning:. I took this in stride, though my physical properties were all in a lather. Later that day, the phone rang. "This is the IRS," I quashed the call. The third time I heard, "This is the IRS ." I picked up the phone and told John Smith to go intercourse himself. Altadena IRS phone scam. Sunday, July 20, 2014. Who is the tall dark stranger there. And the beautiful Bret Ma...

Altadena Hiker: May 2015
http://altadenahiker.blogspot.com/2015_05_01_archive.html
Karin Bugge view from the trail. Tuesday, May 26, 2015. The Yuge Story: It's complicated. Few of us bother to vote in the Altadena Town Council elections, but then, from time-to-time in certain census tracts, no one bothers to run, either. All this to say, to lead up to, a quite amazing local development: A petition which has actually garnered 3,000 signatures. Three-thousand Altadenish agree on something? You could knock me down with a feather. OK, don't shoot me - one more paragraph; two, max. Our Worl...
