The Suburban Parson

Tuesday, September 29, 2015. A Foretaste of the Kingdom? It was a good day in our little neck of the Kingdom. People gathered to study the Bible, fellowship, and share life. Worship attendance was down some (I've been reading recently of a debate over which is worse for church attendance- good weather or bad? But the Spirit was present as we offered our voices, hearts, offerings, and lives to the Living God. Yes, there is. Something special about this place! We are and how. Well, maybe a little pride!

The Suburban Parson: March 2015

http://pastor.towneview.org/2015_03_01_archive.html

Monday, March 23, 2015. In October of 1993 the Pastor Search Committee of Towne View Baptist Church traveled to Rome to hear me preach at Garden Lakes Baptist Church. A member of the committee sat behind a young mother who wrestled with her rambunctious four-year old through the first half of the service before hauling him out to the narthex. At lunch the committee member realized that the Mom was Priscilla and the child in question was Thomas. Thanks for indulging a proud Papa and a proud Pastor. St Pat...

The Suburban Parson: A Psalm of Lament

http://pastor.towneview.org/2015/06/a-psalm-of-lament.html

Friday, June 19, 2015. A Psalm of Lament. How long must hatred be the legacy passed from generation to generation? How long must innocents suffer at the hands of the wicked? How long must a nation be wounded by the abuse of its freedoms? How long must young people feel that violence is the only way to express their frustrations? How long must "the other" be perceived as enemy rather than received as friend? How long must a bright future be clouded by the shadows of the past? How long, O Lord, how long?

The Suburban Parson: February 2014

http://pastor.towneview.org/2014_02_01_archive.html

Tuesday, February 25, 2014. I wonder what those pioneers would think if they saw us worship last Sunday? Only five are still around. I would guess that they would have imagined a larger congregation by now. Without knowing the whole story, they would probably be surprised that twenty-five years later we had progressed from meeting in a motel to meeting in a gym. I hope they would be pleased to hear a female Jamaican-born deacon lead in prayer and a teen-ager read scripture. The song says, "may those who ...

The Suburban Parson: Keeping Sabbath

http://pastor.towneview.org/2015/06/keeping-sabbath.html

Monday, June 1, 2015. In a break from our Jewish forebearers, most Christians observe Sunday as the sabbath. Or day of rest. In our own game of legalistic gotcha' much debate has been invested into what one could or could not do on "the day of rest." At minimum, most would agree that it would be a day intended for worship and rest- a departure from work and responsibilities that consume our minds and bodies the rest of the week. This past Sunday was a day of sabbath. Putting in some hard work. I am g...

The Suburban Parson: July 2015

http://pastor.towneview.org/2015_07_01_archive.html

Monday, July 6, 2015. As our vans pulled-out from the Wherry Housing Community last Saturday morning I glanced around at the sleepy neighborhood and looked back through the mirror at a bus-load of tired teenagers. It had been- by any standard of measure- a good week. To find out more about the work of Community Servants. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). Towne View Baptist Church - Kennesaw, GA.

Waiting | My Life as an Armenian Fish Farmer's Blog

My Life as an Armenian Fish Farmer's Blog. A collection of writings about lifes whimsical twists and turns……………… by: Earnest Gene Lawrence Jr. Patience is definitely not your best suit. Why are you waiting for them? What could you possibly see that would make you think that passing by all other opportunities put in front of you makes sense? Was it that special? Was it that special for both of you, or just you? Do they know that you are waiting? How do you know? No thank you, I’ll wait. Caring so much as ...

My Life as an Armenian Fish Farmer's Blog. A collection of writings about lifes whimsical twists and turns……………… by: Earnest Gene Lawrence Jr. Finding ways to overcome fears is not easy. Some of the returning soldiers turned to alcohol or drugs. Many turned to extreme sports such as martial arts, skydiving, racing, or fighting. Some were trying to use things to forget about the pain, some were trying to find ways to mask it with adrenaline. A few turned to writing. I close my eyes. My hand holds the pen.

My Life as an Armenian Fish Farmer's Blog. A collection of writings about lifes whimsical twists and turns……………… by: Earnest Gene Lawrence Jr. Sometimes in life giving up seems to be the only answer. Things would be so much better if only I were gone. We all know this to be untrue, however sometimes the demons push us farther and farther into the darkness and we get lost. We turn the corners and there are walls. Every turn a wall. Panic overcomes us and we have to leave, but how? The air is sucked out.

My Life as an Armenian Fish Farmer's Blog. A collection of writings about lifes whimsical twists and turns……………… by: Earnest Gene Lawrence Jr. Little Drops of Water. For the wives that suffer along with them. Little drops of water, oval and clear. But the thought of just one, will make the biggest man fear. The loss of virility, it takes away his strength. It leaves his mind empty, unable to think. Little drops of water, so small and serene. Shows a semblance of caring, but he’s just to mean. She will ho...

My Life as an Armenian Fish Farmer's Blog. A collection of writings about lifes whimsical twists and turns……………… by: Earnest Gene Lawrence Jr. A Poem for You. Never give up on the dying embers. The moonlight shines softly on her lovely red hair. The look in her eyes, the depth of her stare. Emotions are heated, passion runs high. The curve of her back, the touch of her thigh. The warmth of her kisses, fill a void from within. The parting of lips, the soft brush of skin. Neither forgiving, neither a fix.

High upon on the mountain top. You can see it all. Hold tightly to the safety line. And pray that you don’t fall. The air is clear and crisp up here. But the clouds are rolling in. Time to make a decision love. Continue up, or go back down again. Tougher choices can’t be found. Tears fill those pretty eyes. October 19th, 2012 ...

My Life as an Armenian Fish Farmer's Blog. A collection of writings about lifes whimsical twists and turns……………… by: Earnest Gene Lawrence Jr. Cigarettes in the Sky. Mortality can be an eye opener. I stand at my post like a good little soldier. When I find that my mind is beginning to wander. Back to a day three years in the past. When a few little words told my love it would last. But was that love ever there? It’s my dream, leave me alone. Vacation on the beach. Away from the scene. Brings solace for some. Brings sadness to me. Will put things back. Forget all that happened. The Official Ministry Website of Pastor Terry Tuinder. Building Believers: Spirit, Soul, and Body. All hands on Deck! September 3, 2015. I am sure you have seen it in a movie. What I’m Listening To. What I’m Reading. Religion, Politics, and Economics. The Bill of Rights and the Ten Commandments. August 6, 2015. Neither I, nor anyone I know, wants to do away with the Bill of Rights. We see it as an essential protection that the individual has against the coercive power of government. Having said that, my concern is with the way that the emphasis on. Has gradually overshadowed our emphasis on. Or “duties”) in the internalized value system within the soul of our nation. A Pastor's Notes | notes, comments, and sermons — sometimes even mine

A Pastor's Notes. Notes, comments, and sermons — sometimes even mine. The Language Gives It Away. Look at the language used by those on the way to swimming the Bosphorus, or, sometimes, the Tiber: very often their language grows ever-more pretentious, and their constant enthusing over the smallest, silliest detail of their newfound love is enough to give the reader a toothache. 21 March 2018 at 4:10 pm.
