Pastor Dan Scott

Monday, September 7, 2015. Thoughts While Walking Through Oslo in The Rain. Walking through Oslo this rainy morning, I think about the importance of western civilization and of those things that make the treasures shared by this civilization possible. I fear the gravitational pull of this romanticized barbarism far more than I fear any other single threat to my faith or my culture. And, I fear, the solution - serious catechism of heart and mind - has become an object of disdain among those who would ...

Pastor Dan Scott: June 2013

http://pastordanscott.blogspot.com/2013_06_01_archive.html

Thursday, June 13, 2013. To the Bishop of Rome:. Dear Pope Francis,. Tonight, for the first time in my life, I will ask the Lord to bless and strengthen the Bishop of Rome. I am Protestant American pastor. It would be easy to dismiss your actions. It would be safe to remain silent about my interest in your ministry. I have, after all, inherited generations of mistrust and even hatred for Roman Christianity. I am disillusioned with much of Evangelicalism because we have lost our sense of the supernatural,...

Friday, October 25, 2013. Candles in the Dark: The Importance of Quality Christian Schools. I watched a documentary once about Eastern European Jews who moved to The United States after World War II. The interviewer asked a group of rabbis why they thought this particular group had been able to retain its values and community even after living several generations in this country. They usually make some sort of profession of faith along the way, (whatever that means in the long run) they hear warnings abo...

Friday, February 21, 2014. What About the Pope? I went to Phoenix last week for three reasons: to see members of my family that live there, to preach at Living Streams church, and to meet a delegation from the Vatican. I wanted to share some reflections about that third item. For ten years, I pastored a church in Central Phoenix. So I have many friends there, including some of the city’s church leaders. Here are some brief quotes from Pope Francis’s much longer letter. Please pray for me that I will be g...

Tuesday, July 30, 2013. Judge Not: More Refections on American Evangelicalism and Same Sex Marriage. 8220;Judge not, lest ye be judged. ”. That's how the Authorized Version puts one of our culture's most quoted saying. It carries great authority because Jesus said it. But what does it mean? The Book of Job and Ecclesiastes contain passages – not often read or used as topics for sermons – that call into question the value of living a godly life. Some of the Psalms ask why God doesn’t...Which of the argume...

Pastor Dan Scott: April 2013

Friday, April 26, 2013. A Theology of Wine. My granddaughter bought me a history book for my birthday: The History of the World in 6 Glasses. Its about the beverages that have shaped civilization: beer, wine, spirits, coffee, tea and coke. The book is funny, informative and easy to read. It tells the story of how the world's various civilizations have marked their territory with their favorite beverage and continue to do so today. I thought some of my friends might enjoy hearing what I learned. The autho...

Faith or Fear? | choosejoytoday

These things I have spoken to you, that my joy may remain in you, and that your joy may be full (John 15:11). I Choose Joy Today. His Blood Still Works →. February 9, 2013. All that from some drizzle and fog! As my mind wandered from there though, I was impressed by the fact that when I am overcome with fear, I must remember the One who calmed the wind and waves is also MY personal Savior. So, what is going to be stronger? What am I going to let win? My fear or my faith? Wherever I am, God is there!

The BlankenBlog: Plowing Together

http://randyblankenship.blogspot.com/2015/05/plowing-together.html

Thursday, May 28, 2015. As we were studying Psalm 27 in our Small Group last night we learned that we are to delight in the Lord so that He can place His desires within us. As we praise Him we access His presence. In His presence is fullness of joy - and the joy of the Lord is our Strength! What came out really strong as we studied this passage is that we are to do this together! The Word is very clear and very strong about that! We need each other! Come prepared to praise and encourage others! Simple te...

Pastor Dan

Saturday, August 31, 2013. Like many other United Methodist pastors, on July 1, Carol and I left Highland, IL after being appointed to a new church. For 14 years I served as pastor of Highland Hope. UMC. One of the hardest part of moving was leaving our daughter, son, daughter-in-law and our three precious grand daughters! The people at Tremont UMC greeted us warmly and made the move much easier! We can't say enough about the way they have received us and are responding to my preaching. Links to this post.

Friday, April 16, 2010. I believe in Angels. The day came when we were to go boating; it was warm and sunny with a light breeze. It seemed like a great day to do something new and adventurous. I was all in! We arrived at the reservoir and launched the boat . It was an older wooden speed boat that seemed just a tad unstable when I first stepped into it. But, I found my place near the back on a bench seat without any problem and was ready to ride. So, why do I believe in Angels? Tuesday, March 9, 2010.
