Pastor K's LifeLook: A Year Long Quest to Read: Book 11
http://pastorkslifelook.blogspot.com/2015/06/a-year-long-quest-to-read-book-11.html
My look at dang near everything. Tuesday, June 16, 2015. A Year Long Quest to Read: Book 11. Upon writing my last post two things happened. First, my friend Scott, upon reading my post, commented that there was a book similar to The Silence of our Friends. Second, my wife and I had a discussion about The Silence of our Friends. That is a wide gulf, and I am fully aware of it, but it is not my story. I read The Silence of our Friends. For my 11th book of the year I read March Book One. And March Book Two.

My look at dang near everything. Friday, June 19, 2015. A Year Long Quest to Read: Book 13. These reviews keep coming hot and heavy because I finished three books over the course of two days. One only took two days, one took a month, and one took almost 4 months. [The last one purposely took that long so I could digest it a few pages at a time, this will make more sense when the Book 14 review is up]. This one, All the Place to Go: How will you know? Comes to mind, that have taken a lot more space to exp...

My look at dang near everything. Wednesday, July 30, 2014. Red Letters/Black Letters: An Intermission. Well, yesterday we reached day 50. If you have been along for the whole ride I want to say thank you. And then I want to say sorry. Peace, love, and good tidings to you until the next time. Tuesday, July 29, 2014. Red Letters/Black Letters: Day 50: Specks and Planks. First remove the plank from our own eye, and then you will see clearly to remove the speck that is in your brother's eye.". Therefore be m...

My look at dang near everything. Monday, March 23, 2015. A Year Long Quest to Read: Book 6. I finally decided to relent and purchased a digital copy of Paper Towns. By John Green for $4.99. Before I downloaded I did read the synopsis and it sounded interesting, I also learned that John Green was the author of a little book titled The Fault in Our Stars. This review won't be as long as some of my previous ones, but as always if you wish to only know my barebones opinion, scroll down.]. Is about the people...
Pastor K's LifeLook: November 2014
http://pastorkslifelook.blogspot.com/2014_11_01_archive.html
My look at dang near everything. Tuesday, November 25, 2014. And am now awoken to the same world that I fell asleep in, and it makes me sad. A young man has lost his life. Was it criminal? I don't know. Was it a crime? Yes, as it always is when anyone's life is taken. There are voices that scream, "Justice! While others are screaming, 'Injustice! While still others are screaming, 'Just another day in paradise! Another young man of color has lost his life and that is tragic. Another child of our world...

i carry your heart: August 2014
http://akandatang-luke5.blogspot.com/2014_08_01_archive.html
I carry your heart. I carry it in my heart). I remember that day like it was yesterday. How I cried the entire flight from Singapore to LAX and scared off the guy in the seat beside me. The eight hours at LAX, homesick and annoyed by the "Do not leave your luggage unattended" PSA. Having this wishful thought that when I landed in Indianapolis, it would be the people I just left behind in Changi Airport who would greet me. My first meal at Steak and Shake. I always thought I would return to Singapore.

I carry your heart. I carry it in my heart). Unfinished Stories #1: Auckland to Berlin (via Atlanta). Sitting in a food court downtown. Behind, the ladies are complaining about the last meeting they had to sit through. Across, the gentleman is leafing through his notes. I check Facebook for the fifth time in twelve minutes. There are no updates. So I try Google. The last update was an hour ago. At last, there is some vague update that doesn't say very much. We are still waiting. Have you met her? There a...

http://akandatang-luke5.blogspot.com/2015_02_01_archive.html
I carry your heart. I carry it in my heart). This week, I attended Savaira's uncle's funeral service. Because we weren't familiar with the customs of Fijian funerals, we ended up showing up on the evening when the family service was happening. I was admittedly nervous about having shown up on the wrong day because it might have made for a really awkward situation. So perhaps we need to re-examine the way we preach sermons. Are we just giving a speech each Sunday just for the sake of giving a speech, ...
i carry your heart: The Umbrella: Engaging "Leaving Church" From the Grassroots
http://akandatang-luke5.blogspot.com/2015/01/the-umbrella-engaging-leaving-church.html
I carry your heart. I carry it in my heart). The Umbrella: Engaging "Leaving Church" From the Grassroots. I recently facilitated a "Becoming a Younger Adult" workshop at a Christian youth camp. The conversations I had after led me to writing this post to share a few thoughts. Ten years ago, when I was about to move halfway around the world, my youth group got me an interesting gift. It was an umbrella that had been signed by the people in that youth group that I loved dearly. As I continued reading the n...

I carry your heart. I carry it in my heart). Aotearoa Diaries: "Story Time". Every once in a while, I can't help but wonder if I've completely lost the plot by choosing to ministry plant from scratch. Don't get me wrong, I absolutely adore the people I get to spend time with. No, really. I'm not just saying that because it's a part of my job. I would still hang out with these people even if I didn't also have the privilege of calling it "my job". That That's what makes me giddy excited. It has been nearl...
i carry your heart: On Job Descriptions...
http://akandatang-luke5.blogspot.com/2015/06/on-job-descriptions.html
I carry your heart. I carry it in my heart). I had a sobering realisation recently: I know how to be a Christian in a pre-Christian world, but I don’t know how to be a pastor in a post-Christian world. Let me begin with a disclaimer that for the purpose of this post, I use the words “Christian,” “pre-Christian world,” “pastor” and “post-Christian world” in the traditional evangelical sense. Ahh… That job description. The simplest way to describe it is that it’s an alternate reality game owned by Go...

http://akandatang-luke5.blogspot.com/2014/09/on-young-adults-1-some-thoughts-on.html
I carry your heart. I carry it in my heart). On Young Adults #1: Some thoughts on engaging the Church. Even though I've officially only been in the role of student ministries pastor for about eight months, the young adult age group is one that I've been quite passionate about for a long time. I haven't written as much as I would have liked, but here are some very initial thoughts. 1) Stop simply talking about us and actually talk to us. 2) Tell us we no longer need permission. 4) We are NOT a singles club.
i carry your heart: On Writing... (And Being a Real Pastor)
http://akandatang-luke5.blogspot.com/2014/10/on-writing-and-being-real-pastor.html
I carry your heart. I carry it in my heart). On Writing. (And Being a Real Pastor). Josh said the other day I should write more. I would agree with him, except I haven't had any coherent thoughts lately that would give me a good start to a new post, so I guess I would start this one off with a shout-out to him. Cheers, Batman. Thanks for getting me to start writing again. I write because it. I write because it. Is a way to freedom. As fingers fly over the keyboard, it's as if the tap-tap-tapping on e...

I carry your heart. I carry it in my heart). And they'll know we are Christians by our love.". That's a line from a familiar song. We are one in the Spirit; we are one in the Lord. Unity That's one of the pillars of the Church of God Reformation Movement. And unity was what we saw at the APCGC last week. But I digress. Unity. In my college and seminary years, the Anderson Campmeeting (and the various names it has come to be known by) slowly grew to become a highlight for me each summer. Part of it, a...

I carry your heart. I carry it in my heart). Aotearoa Diaries: 返来 Return. Hello, 2015. It's nice to meet you. The last 3 months have been a whirlwind. 6 countries in some 80 days. Whoa. Would I do it all over again? Don't get me wrong. The last 3 months on the road have not managed to kill my spirit of adventure or love for the world. But maybe that's the problem. Travelling stirs up all kinds of thoughts, feelings and dreams that I'm not sure I have the energy to keep up with anymore. In the 3 months th...

My look at dang near everything. Thursday, April 12, 2018. Road Trippin' with the Doctor - A Prologue. How would you like to spend about a year together? I do not know your answer to that question, well unless you comment here or on the tweet or Facebook post that will inevitably follow the completion of this particular blog post, how else would you find yourself here to read that question in the first place? Anyway, before I lose the plot too badly, let's go back to that year thing. So why the wait?

September 23, 2013. We’ve all had times in our lives where we’ve prayed and thought”God, why haven’t you answered my prayers? 8221; I think there are times where we need to take inventory of the things that can hinder our prayersmaking them ineffective. Hopefully, these will help us all to reach the throne room. 2 – Lack of Faith: Lack of faith really goes against what we are as Christians. One of my favorite verses is James 1:5-8:. These are just two of several that I hope to share with you. I truly...

Pastor Kuruvilla Chandy: Reflections
Rev Kuruvilla Chandy: Reflections. Thoughts on the spiritual nature of humanity. Saturday, August 01, 2015. WE'RE SO CAREFUL WITH CAESAR. Caesar vs. God. Christ’s lordship was in conflict with that of Caesar’s from the very outset. Christians who wished to escape Caesar’s sword were required to bend their knees before an image of Caesar, throw a pinch of incense on a fire, and confess that Caesar is lord (cf. 1 Cor.12:3). The question was a tricky one. He would be condemned as a traitor if He said th...
