Lisa Shafer: A Writer's Blog. Contact Me For Teachers. Monday, September 19, 2011. If You're Going To Write YA, You've Got To Stay Current. I don't just write YA; I read it. Of course I read it; I'm a teacher, and I have to know what books to recommend to my students. Folks, if you're going to write contemporary settings in YA fiction, you absolutely have to be in contact with actual teenagers. You cannot assume that what you experienced in high school is still current - because it's not. Kids only send ...

Lisa Shafer: A Writer's Blog: Message To YA Writers: Schools Have Changed In The Last 20 Years.

Lisa Shafer: A Writer's Blog. Contact Me For Teachers. Saturday, August 1, 2015. Message To YA Writers: Schools Have Changed In The Last 20 Years. I've written about this before: YA writers need to know what kids are like. And what schools are like. NOW, in the post-2000. World But the problem has not gone away. YA authors who went to school in the 1990s seem to think that nothing has changed. Hello, people! Schools are not stuck in a time warp! Then why do I keep finding stuff like this in your books?

Lisa Shafer: A Writer's Blog: August 2015
http://lisashafer.blogspot.com/2015_08_01_archive.html
Lisa Shafer: A Writer's Blog. Contact Me For Teachers. Sunday, August 30, 2015. Book Review: Silver In The Blood by Jessica Day George. Here's the blurb from Goodreads:. With a gorgeous Romanian setting, stunning Parisian gowns, and dark brooding young men, readers will be swept up by this epic adventure of two girls in a battle for their lives. This was a bad move because Silver in the Blood is pretty dang good. When I finally got the book from our school library and opened it to page one, I felt like s...

Lisa Shafer: A Writer's Blog. Contact Me For Teachers. Saturday, July 18, 2015. The 2015 Utah Shakespeare Festival: Reviews of King Lear, Henry IV part 2, and Shrew. Yesterday I reviewed the three non-Shakespeare plays at the 2015 Utah Shakespeare Festival; today I present to you my reviews of the three works of the Bard they offer. Note: this photo is from the Salt Lake Tribune, as bard.org now prevents people from posting or pinning their photos. I must laugh at the Tribune review of this play,...The p...

Lisa Shafer: A Writer's Blog: Oslo: A Day at the Museums
http://lisashafer.blogspot.com/2015/07/oslo-day-at-museums.html
Lisa Shafer: A Writer's Blog. Contact Me For Teachers. Monday, July 13, 2015. Oslo: A Day at the Museums. After I left Iceland, I flew to Norway and then spent a few days in Oslo. By this time, my back, hips, and legs were really giving me problems, so I could not walk very far or do anywhere near as much as I wanted to. This was very scary and frustrating. However, this post is not the place to go into all that. Let me share with you a few of the things I was able to see. Unfortunately, the dim light ne...

Lisa Shafer: A Writer's Blog: Books I Didn't Bother To Finish This Week
http://lisashafer.blogspot.com/2015/08/books-i-didnt-bother-to-finish-this-week.html
Lisa Shafer: A Writer's Blog. Contact Me For Teachers. Sunday, August 2, 2015. Books I Didn't Bother To Finish This Week. I really wanted to have finished 100 books for 2015 by the end of July, but I didn't quite make it. (I'm at 96 right now.) One reason is that I've spent so much time in July editing The (Dis)Appearance of Nerissa MacKay. Almost ready to publish! And pounding out the first draft (my least favorite part of writing) of its sequel, Nerissa MacKay and the Mystery of the Seventeen Scrolls.

The blog of Sharon Jones - YA writer who runs with the poodles. Wednesday, 31 October 2012. I was tagged by the lovely Liz de Jagger. In this fascinating meme of books to come. Do go on over to their blogs to read about their amazing books! What is the working title of your book? Where did the idea come from for the book?
