An evolving, inconsistently updated record of my thought process. Sunday, February 17, 2013. Video: A Case for Open Data in Transit. As a user of open data from the MBTA (I'm a big fan of NextBus. I can't agree more with the movement towards opening as much data as possible to developers for urban transit initiatives. If done right, it encourages expanded ridership and can serve to make the services more efficient. Links to this post. Saturday, February 9, 2013. The Restaurant Service Auction Market.

An evolving, inconsistently updated record of my thought process. Thursday, August 8, 2013. Prisoner's Dilemma Example and the Coalition Game. A great example of the Prisoner's Dilemma. Note Nick's insistence upon picking "Steal" right away, which put Ibraham in the position of taking a serious leap of faith. I was surprised by the ending. I actually had a similar experience last night in my Negotiations class. We played "The Coalition Game," which went like so:. The order of negotiations is:. I was on T...

An evolving, inconsistently updated record of my thought process. Sunday, September 30, 2012. Customer Service and the Principal-Agent Problem. A couple weeks ago, I read a nice little piece. That Stephen Dubner wrote on the Freakonomics. Blog about the principal-agent problem. A cheap, but guilt-ridden, reader wrote in to Freakonomics. It has to do with misaligned incentives. Back in high school and during college term breaks, I worked at a pizza place. My boss didn’t agree with this strategy beca...

An evolving, inconsistently updated record of my thought process. Friday, November 9, 2012. Data Crunching, Election Edition. Im getting more into data analytics, and have been looking for some substantial examples beyond the usual more and more companies are using analytics blanket statements from Harvard Business Review. Much to my relief, Time. Came out with a nice piece. About the Obama campaigns use of data in their recent electoral victory. I have a friend who works in the (spinning down post-elect...

Bikes, Travel & Bagels: The Condensed Version
http://bitragels.blogspot.com/2010/07/condensed-version.html
Bikes, Travel and Bagels. Monday, July 26, 2010. A lot has happened in the two months since my last post, I should really keep on top of this blogging thing, but I often find myself forgetting to get things written down. I'll try to bring it all up to speed with the condensed version of June and July. Back in Connecticut, I began to realize that I'd signed up for a ridiculously long race and it was sitting around 3 weeks away. My mileage was certainly not where it should be. I might note, that wi...Scott...

http://bitragels.blogspot.com/2010_01_01_archive.html
Bikes, Travel and Bagels. Saturday, January 2, 2010. I hung up the bike after the last race and called it quits for the season. I was certainly ready to be done with riding for a little while. I was mentally in need of a break and physically I could feel my legs yearning for some quality rest. I was so ready to be finished, that I didn't even get to writing anything about it until now. There are some pictures available from Day 1. And from Day 2. For you viewing pleasure. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom).

Bikes, Travel & Bagels: 2010 Wilderness 101
http://bitragels.blogspot.com/2010/08/2010-wilderness-101.html
Bikes, Travel and Bagels. Sunday, August 1, 2010. Let me just say that I'm pretty sure there was no way I had enough miles under my legs to finish a 101 mile mountain bike race with any kind of credible strength. I've been saying it for a month. Anyone that I told about the race, I also told that I was expecting at least a 10 hour finishing time. I'm not really sure what he yelled back, I was too far gone and there was too much trail noise. Eight and a half hours? Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom).

Short story; Jake and I were to race at Singlespeed-a-palooza, Jake broke the end of his collarbone, Lee says, "I'll be 'Jake'." Lee rides Jake's bike at Singlespeed-a-palooza, Jake drinks beer and chats people up at the event venue. Racing Single Speed is Dumb. As the race went on for three more laps my legs grew very, very tired. Too much gear on the uphills, too little on the flats...

Bikes, Travel and Bagels. Wednesday, August 25, 2010. Mt Washington Bicycle Hill Climb 2010. Most of the mountain, especially the early miles, is a little bit of a blur. I never saw the 1 mile post, so by the time I got to the 2 mile post I was wondering where I was and thinking this was going to be a bit longer of a ride than I remembered. Realizing that I'd actually completed 2 miles was a relief. The final 9 minutes of the climb in the video below. Finishing the Mt. Washington hill climb. Let me just ...

An evolving, inconsistently updated record of my thought process. Monday, December 29, 2014. MATLAB Script: Dealing Cards. I played cards (poorly) over Christmas, and thought a good way to break through the end-of-year boredom at work would be to write a quick MATLAB script that dealt a given number of cards from a randomly shuffled deck to a given number of players. I got to use the eval command again, which is always exciting. Randomly shuffle a deck of cards. Display the hands for each player. Card na...
