http://mjlbirder.blogspot.com/2013_03_01_archive.html
Poole Birds and Moths. Sunday, 24 March 2013. A quick post to display some of the photos from yesterday's ringing session (and one from the 17th Feb). In total an amazing 73 Chiffchaff were caught in the PC World drain, Poole, of which 68 were new (incl tristis), 4 were re-trapped from previous visits and 1 was a control . This is what we certainly believe to be a tristis. This next bird was caught on the 17th Feb and was a retrap having originally been trapped here in 2009. Could it be a tristis? 9th Au...

The Weekend Biologist: Moths
http://theweekendbiologist.blogspot.com/2013/07/moths.html
Friday, 19 July 2013. It has been a while since any moths featured here. Not had time for a huge amount of trapping this year but have done a bit over the last couple of weeks now the weather is better. Having started only last year and with last summer being rubbish, lots of new species have found their way into the trap. I'm also trying to start with micros but am only having limited success! True Lovers Knot - possibly the coolest common name ever! Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom).

The Weekend Biologist: December 2012
http://theweekendbiologist.blogspot.com/2012_12_01_archive.html
Thursday, 20 December 2012. Not posted for a while due to work commitments. I have also given on to getting a phone that does more than make calls so this is a bit of a test. Winter heliotrope is currently in flower everywhere here. Nice to see some flowers at this time of year but it is a bit of a pity that this plant is so invasive! My eradication efforts obviously haven't worked. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). View my complete profile. Coastal North Minileague - October 2016. Music for the Morning.

http://mjlbirder.blogspot.com/2013/10/hemsted-parrot-crossbills-all-sounds.html
Poole Birds and Moths. Wednesday, 23 October 2013. Hemsted Parrot Crossbills - all sounds good. T first when I heard the recording I was a bit pessimistic because it was difficult to distinguish between flight calls and song fragments. Then I noticed that around 0:15-0:18 there are several deep took took excitement calls that are definitely Parrot Crossbill. They are much more abrupt-sounding than the excitement calls of any other crossbill vocal types that I know. It's true that juv crossbill calls all ...
