A couple of weeks agoI took some of the flowers out of the vase and laid them on the table to paint. I used a (gessoed over) panel, which is a painting that didn't make it. This was one of the bottles we bought for NewYears Eve, when I saw it on the shelf in the store I saw a challenge for a painting. What caught my eye was the contrast of the dark rich color of the Amaretto and the bright label along with the interesting shape of the bottle. Labels: acrylic still life. I knew it was supposed to be overcast all day so I had no plans on going out in the 26 degree temps. The shape of the rock mimics both the shape of the flower and the curving pattern of the hummingbirds wings. I recently reworked this piece adding a little atmosphere to the painting. I painted this from a 5x7 study done on location one afternoon.
