April 07 I was found to have a huge tumour on my left kidney with mets (secondaries) in my liver. It was Ewing's Sarcoma and in April 08 completed two courses of chemotherapy from the Marsden Hospital. After a 13 weeks off treatment, July 08 saw recurrence and so I entered a Phase I trial of a moncolonal antibody. Last Friday we celebrated Dad's remarkable life with a service at Our Lady and St Georges Church and a brilliant reception at the Royal Chase Hotel. We were overwhelmed by the number of people who were able to attend. Paul - cancer survivor in the making. Sunday, 16 November 2008. Soon after his last blog, Dad's health deteriorated quickly and today he died peacefully in his sleep, surrounded by his family. As I said last time, I was due to be enrolled on the monoclonal anti-body trial on 25 July, but when I went to "be consented" they said my platelets were too low to be entered into the trial. Sunday, 21 March 2010. Reduced dosage Chemo 3 and 4 went OK, no bad effects other than nausea. A follow up of 2 maintenance doses have failed to stop the cancer from growing. Radiotherapy was the next option so I underwent 12 sessions in December '09. Side effects were mainly a very sore throat with difficulty swallowing, and coughing fits every morning.
