In Alsace, there are seven different varieties of grapes, with each sort making a different wine. First of all, Alsatian wine grapes are best known for producing aromatic white wines. Each grape-variety is seperatly fermented. Pinot noir grapes are also grown for red wines and for Crémant d’Alsace, an Alsatian sparkling wine. The different varieties are: pinot ( blanc, gris and noir ), riesling, sylvaner, muscat and gewurztraminer. Great wines of Alsace. Award at Confrérie Saint Etienne.

The vineyards are located near the village of Orschwiller in central Alsace which is famously known for the medieval castle of Haut-Koenigsbourg. Over 60% are old vines of more than 25 years. Rains which come mostly from the west are divided by the hills and therefore give a drier and hotter climate.
