TALK: Spring is late
http://myvachana.blogspot.com/2010/09/spring-is-late.html
Monday, September 27, 2010. Went to Canberra to renew the passports for the family. The weather was beautiful. And we just chanced upon the annual flower exhibition - the Floriade, outside Canberra. Took some pictures. It was a beautiful show. Came back totally exhausted - woke up at 4 am in the morning to catch the plane and rushed back straight after getting the passport done. E weather, though, was fantastic. We had beautiful sunshine with a top of 20. Couldn't be better. Happy birthday, Daniel! Just ...

TALK: December 2010
http://myvachana.blogspot.com/2010_12_01_archive.html
Thursday, December 30, 2010. Just last year my daughter managed to trace down a dear family friend that we lost touch with for over 15 years. Through facebook, of course. And today, I "bumped" into a friend on facebook. Didn't know he has come thousands of kilometres away from where we worked together to the same city I now live in. I enjoy friendship greatly. Yet sadly there are people whom we just can't be great friends with. I often wonder why. They are great people, nice people. But s...All town wher...

TALK: September 2009
http://myvachana.blogspot.com/2009_09_01_archive.html
Wednesday, September 30, 2009. This has been a good start for us. For starters, it has been wet over the last couple of weeks, and this brought a relieving supply of water to the dams of Melbourne. Water storage in dams is up, and there is so much snow in the Southern Alpine regions that the snow season is extended. Thank God for such a time. And nestled right in the middle, safe and sound, is Malaysia and Singapore. Praise God for that. Monday, September 21, 2009. Stories of new migrants. There are a lo...

TALK: Lim Lian Geok - National Unity and Chinese Schools
http://myvachana.blogspot.com/2011/02/lim-lian-geok-national-unity-and.html
Tuesday, February 8, 2011. Lim Lian Geok - National Unity and Chinese Schools. In 1952, he advocated that the Chinese school curriculum be changed to focus on Malaya instead of China. He reasoned, ". we should reform the text books . to prove that our young people are imbued with a sense of loyalty to Malaya.". He continue his fight for the right of Chinese to learn their mother tongue even after that. In 1985, in an interview with the Star, Tunku Abdul Rahman said that the United Chinese School Teac...

TALK: Bread
http://myvachana.blogspot.com/2010/10/bread.html
Wednesday, October 27, 2010. The first time I got really excited about baking bread was more than 20 years ago. Back in the 80s bread making machine was a rarity. I visited my friend's house one day and saw that they had such a machine. I was totally fascinated, not only by the idea that you can bake bread at home, but also because a freshly baked loaf of bread smells and tastes so much better. This is my simple bread recipe, and it tastes just as nice as the one bought in the shop. 15 teaspoon of yeast.
