http://www.paulmatsonbirdsandstuff.blogspot.com/p/south-africa.html

Paul Matson's Birding Blog. Harpy Eagle, Venezuela, April 2016. South Africa January 2014. Monday 30th December 2013. It seemed like it would never arrive, but with great relief we flew on Sunday night from Heathrow to Cape Town, arriving at 7am, and having failed to convince Avis to part with a bigger car, we stuffed our bags into the VW Polo and started on the long drive to Knysna. About 6hous later we arrived, stopping only to buy some water and a KFC! Followed by Karoo Prinia, Brimstone Canary, Karoo...

Paul Matson's Birding Blog. Harpy Eagle, Venezuela, April 2016. Sri Lanka Dec 2010. 8211; travelling and heat. Well, we arrived at Heathrow with plenty of time to shop,. While I managed to stay awake and drink in some pretty amazing scenery and scenes on a five hour drive. Up into the Knuckles Ranges, Han and Adie were well and truly cactus by then and slept most of the way. Haggling skills need to be honed fairly quickly,. Four weeks of minus 2! Once we were through Kandy, a sprawling metropolis and Sri...

I'm sure everyone knows where it is - but it's bigger than you think - probably 3x the size of the UK. So the logistics of transport and sleeping and feeding was fantastically organised. Sue and Rob's House in Borrowdale. Sat 30th - bus trip to farm. Were all seen before breakfast. We had a coup...

Paul Matson's Birding Blog. Harpy Eagle, Venezuela, April 2016. A Borneo holiday was , specifically with Orang Utans in mind but it also worked as it is vaguely on route to Australia. Our arrangements for Borneo (All in the Malaysian state of Sabah) were made through Wildlife Trails who we'd successfully done trips with before to Sri Lanka, India and Canada as they seem to have a particularly good understanding of fitting the wildlife bit with 2 children. And Imperial Green Pigeon. From the hotel window!

Paul Matson's Birding Blog. Harpy Eagle, Venezuela, April 2016. Monday, 12 January 2015. Sunday 11th January - Muddy Legs. An unexpected ending to the day. I hadn't been for a walk from the house for a long while, so decided to do just that this morning, especially as the weather looked good for the first part of the day, a slight frost was on the ground as I climbed over the garden fence just after 8am and headed up to the lane. A Great Spotted Woodpecker. Was in the big arable field, several Siskin.
