The title of this blog is taken from Alexander McCall Smith's 44 Scotland Street series of books. Bertie is a wee precocious boy who's not allowed to be a child. His mother has grand plans for him, and has organized "The Bertie Project" to educate him well beyond his years. This blog is meant to be my own personal "Bertie Project" - a way to lead a more enriched life. View my complete profile.

Wednesday, April 25, 2012. Turning Towards Self-Publishing with Lauren Henkin. In my last post on why I’m skipping the “Photo 2.0” upgrade. Leading these changes are artists who are not only producing fine art objects, but are selflessly helping others who want to extend their artistic practice in that direction. One such person is Lauren Henkin. A remarkable artist from Portland who in recent years has produced a series of extraordinary hand crafted fine art books. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). Dedicated ...

Sunday, August 26, 2007. After over a year of (very sporadic) posting, I am finally writing a spontaneous post (cut-and-paste from Word never seemed to protect me from awkward grammar and spelling anyway)! I appreciate your optimistic tone. Although there is still much progress to be made in getting people off the couch and into the galleries, things are undoubtedly far better than they were even five years ago. I can't help but mention that the MoCL resides on the Oaklands side of the Fernwood/Oaklands ...

The Bertie Project: October 2011
http://thebertieproject.blogspot.com/2011_10_01_archive.html
Sunday, October 30, 2011. Today I'm writing about liberation - from the tyranny of a bad back, from the tyranny of always having to have a reason or plan to make photographs and from the tyranny of self-contained compositions. Today was the first time in a couple of weeks that I've been out and about in the forest after I seriously put my back out. It was glorious to be back outdoors, walking comfortably and seeing things with fresh eyes. Before I went out to the forest, I stopped in at Lúz Gallery.

Monday, July 25, 2011. Untitled kallitype print, untoned. Click on image to view larger). First prints of the series "Richard Serra's Garden". Click on image to view larger). I recently purchased a new UV light box so that I could make cyanotypes, kallitypes and salt prints with a known constant UV source useable all year round, day and night. Up to this point, I had been relying on the sun, which of course varies in UV strength from day to day, and is useful for probably 5 months or so per year. Bartlet...
