Paul's Public History Blog

Paul's Public History Blog. Tuesday, November 17, 2009. Cohen and Rosenzweig are right- the Web is not going anywhere. However, I think the benefits (particularly those of capacity and accessibility) far outweigh the potential for abuse. Like anything involving new technology we need to develop standards for usage. Cohen and Rosenzweig do a good job of identifying the issues involved. My question is will we be able to develop the standards before the technology changes again? History and New Media: .

Paul's Public History Blog: The Lowell Experiment

http://www.paulspublichistoryblog.blogspot.com/2009/10/lowell-experiment.html

Paul's Public History Blog. Sunday, October 25, 2009. Stanton does a lot of work on the study of how Public History came to Lowell and does it from the standpoint of an anthropologist. At first, I thought that approach wouldn't work but it does - although there's a couple of times when I think its overkill and that often times Stanton does herself and the book a disservice by taking herself too seriously. . Take out the words  public history. In that sentence and replace them with city council.

Paul's Public History Blog: September 2009

http://www.paulspublichistoryblog.blogspot.com/2009_09_01_archive.html

Paul's Public History Blog. Sunday, September 20, 2009. Saturday, September 12, 2009. Alright, here goes. In his prologue states that he's "approached the book as a set of essays" and that's the way I'm going to approach my comments. Maybe my ideas will change as I go through the book, lets see. . What's Wrong with History? I don't think there's anything "wrong with history" but I do think there's a lot that's wrong with the way its viewed and thus by extension taught.  The 1995 Enola. It seems to me tha...

Thoughts of an Uppity Grad: Yari's Baby Clothes: Object History

http://uppitygrad.blogspot.com/2010/09/yaris-baby-clothes-object-history.html

Thoughts of an Uppity Grad. Wednesday, September 15, 2010. Yari's Baby Clothes: Object History. Yari's baby clothes had a long history before Yari. Textile manufacturers, clothing designers, factory workers, truck drivers and retailers all influenced the life cycle of this ordinary onesie. Its owner changed multiple times and each altered the path of the object without knowing that it would eventually reach a young mother and her newborn baby girl. Yari's daughter has since grown out of her first clothin...

Thoughts of an Uppity Grad. Sunday, September 20, 2009. The Significance of Mad Men (and Reading Commentary #2). Some people would call me a television junkie. I prefer to think of myself as a connoisseur of fine viewing. That being said, tonight was a big night for junkies and connoisseurs alike as we all celebrated another fine year of programming with the 61st Annual Primetime Emmys. My thoughts are turning more toward a certain "Outstanding Drama" winner:. Articles analyzing character's drinks. There...

Travels through history: October 2009

http://stevenhistory.blogspot.com/2009_10_01_archive.html

Follow me as we explore various issues in Museums, Public History, and American History. Friday, October 30, 2009. Through interpretation, understanding; through understanding, appreciation; through appreciation, protection. Freeman Tilden's quote about the importance of interpretation fifty years ago still rings true today. If people do not understand why something is important, they often do not appreciate it, and therefore don't see the need to protect it. Links to this post. Tuesday, October 27, 2009.

http://stevenhistory.blogspot.com/2010_09_01_archive.html

Follow me as we explore various issues in Museums, Public History, and American History. Monday, September 27, 2010. Today I am offering my own hypothetical design plan of the First Person Museum exhibit. It will be based on materials produced by First Person Arts. For a base I have used Alice Parman’s “Exhibit Makeovers:. Do-it-yourself Exhibit Planning”, from the AASLH. Every object has many stories hiding just below the surface. History is just another story in this mission). Whenever possible interac...

Follow me as we explore various issues in Museums, Public History, and American History. Sunday, November 22, 2009. Readings of the week. What a busy week! The digital turn is not a fad, it is the future, but the work required is specialized and difficult. Follow me as we explore various issues in Museums, Public History, and American History. Tuesday, September 21, 2010. This week I am changing gears slightly. Last week I discussed the history of both stuffed animals and promotional items, but due to length constraints, I will only be focusing on stuffed animals from here. However, they would probably be able to determine that it is a stuffed animal. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). Interested in this blog? Check out my colleagues.
