The Great Longtail Revolution: The Longtail Manife. What Its All Aboot. Tuesday, December 31, 2013. Road ID For You And Me. I got this hilarious email from Ed at Road ID. I have some fantastic news! Noyou didn't win the lottery, but your Road ID order was shipped today (12/27/2013). Per your request, it was shipped via USPS First Class Mail. So, you live in Kentucky. As a security feature, however, our doors will only open if you're carrying freshly baked cookies. Anyway, for those that might not be fami...

Pavement's Edge Archive: The Misunderstood Wilderness

http://pavementsedgearchive.blogspot.com/p/the-misunderstood-wilderness.html

The Great Longtail Revolution: The Longtail Manife. What Its All Aboot. I wrote this series of posts in an effort to develop my thoughts on the idea of "wilderness." I didn't have a clear idea where I wanted to go with the series, and it probably shows. But I think I struck upon a few really good ideas and themes which I hope to further develop over time. In part, this series is inspired by Wendell Berry's amazing. Driving Deep Into Wilderness. On the Right Path. Give Me Zip Lines or Give Me Death!

Pavement's Edge Archive: Why I'm Doing the #KY4X100

http://pavementsedgearchive.blogspot.com/2014/04/why-i-doing-ky4x100.html

The Great Longtail Revolution: The Longtail Manife. What Its All Aboot. Wednesday, April 9, 2014. Why Im Doing the #KY4X100. I had vowed around the middle of 2013 that the only organized bike event I would do in 2014 was the Redbud Ride. And at the end of 2013 I was still resolved not to get wrapped up in organized events. Jeffro talked me into doing the Mohican again this year. And that darned Joe Bowen has organized a trail half marathon in the Red River Gorge. Sigh. I'm looking forward to doing anothe...

Pavement's Edge Archive: March 2014

http://pavementsedgearchive.blogspot.com/2014_03_01_archive.html

The Great Longtail Revolution: The Longtail Manife. What Its All Aboot. Monday, March 31, 2014. The Misunderstood Wilderness: Give Me Zip Lines or Give Me Death! And here is the long-awaited first part to a two part conclusion to my Misunderstood Wilderness series. The final installment will come later this week and will be entitled "Understanding Wilderness." I apologize, I got sidetracked by bike rides, wildebi, octopi, and lack of beddy-by. They want something from the land but offer nothing in return.

From the Pavement's Edge: The Redbud Ride: Tussey Time

http://pavementsedge.blogspot.com/2014/04/the-redbud-ride-tussey-time.html

From the Pavement's Edge. From the Pavement's Edge Archive. Friday, April 11. The Redbud Ride: Tussey Time. In honor of the Redbud Ride tomorrow (and apologies to Don Williams):. Sung to the tune of. I left Laurel County ridin' on a bicycle. Just about to lose my mind. I was goin' on to East Bernstadt, maybe on to Livingston. Where the people like them bikes just fine. My baby said I was crazy, don’t gun for Tussey lazy. I was goin' to show 'em all this time. I was born to just climb that climb. Truth be...

http://pavementsedge.blogspot.com/p/what-its-all-aboot.html

From the Pavement's Edge. From the Pavement's Edge Archive. What It's All Aboot. What It's All Aboot. I've been riding a bike since I was seven years old.well, not the entire. Time, but a lot. If it were up to me my job would be to just ride my bike. Unfortunately I have yet to figure out how to craft a resume that will shoehorn me into the position of full time bike-tourer/trail builder/mountain biker/endurance racer/cargo bike captain. Still working on the employment history and formatting…. I always m...

From the Pavement's Edge: I Hart Steep Hills!

http://pavementsedge.blogspot.com/2013/07/i-hart-steep-hills.html

From the Pavement's Edge. From the Pavement's Edge Archive. Wednesday, July 31. I Hart Steep Hills! After three attempts on Hart's Orchard hill it seemed like I had a long way to go before I could ride it in a single effort. My best performance was with only one stop on my first try, but I'd not been able to pull that off in two subsequent tries. Then I got a new cassette with a 34 tooth cog versus the 32 tooth cog I'd been running all along. Those magic two teeth. Big guys like us have to take it slow.

http://pavementsedge.blogspot.com/2014/04/the-redbud-ride-send-me-dead-flowers.html

From the Pavement's Edge. From the Pavement's Edge Archive. Wednesday, April 2. The Redbud Ride: Send Me Dead Flowers. There is no way I’m not gonna do it. You’ll think I’m nuts, but I don’t care. You’ll think you’re smarter than me, but you’re not. This choice has little to do with brains. And I think it will totally be worth the promotional value. I’m going to ride the Xtracycle in the Redbud Ride. Mayhap I will even ride it for all three of the Kentucky Century Challenge. I figure…why not? Used to I c...

From the Pavement's Edge: First Cargo Bike Ascent of Cobhill

http://pavementsedge.blogspot.com/2014/04/first-cargo-bike-ascent-of-cobhill.html

From the Pavement's Edge. From the Pavement's Edge Archive. Monday, April 7. First Cargo Bike Ascent of Cobhill. A quick bit of news: over the weekend this blog reached 100,000 pageviews. Combined with the old version of this blog (jerseyguys.blogspot.com) and my old Ascentionist blog I have nearly 150,000 pageviews. The taint on my celebratory mood is that I know a good bit of these numbers represent trolling bots. Once I was sufficiently laden with expedition gear I headed off for Cobhill, 16 or so rol...

From the Pavement's Edge: Slain Giant

http://pavementsedge.blogspot.com/2010/07/slain-giant.html

From the Pavement's Edge. From the Pavement's Edge Archive. Tuesday, July 20. When I dropped Mandy off at church last night I thought of it, even though the entry cover is really high. When we drove through the drive-thru at DQ to get Blizzards on the way home I thought of it even though there was no cover over the drive-thru. Five minutes later as I eased the car into the carport at home I hadn't thought about it. My bike was on top of the car. I can't believe I did that. Tuesday, July 20, 2010.

From the Pavement's Edge: Ben Sollee's Ditch the Van Tour

http://pavementsedge.blogspot.com/2010/08/ben-sollee-ditch-van-tour.html

From the Pavement's Edge. From the Pavement's Edge Archive. Thursday, August 26. Ben Sollees Ditch the Van Tour. Ben Sollee, a musician from Lexington, KY, is doing a bike tour. But its not just a bike tour, but a performance tour as well. He's riding his bike around to his gigs hauling his cello as he goes. He calls it the "Ditch the Van Tour". Its a pretty cool idea and I know he's not the first musician to do this. Might try to go see him in Denver on September 5th. Thursday, August 26, 2010.

From the Pavement's Edge: Understanding Wilderness

http://pavementsedge.blogspot.com/2014/04/understanding-wilderness.html

From the Pavement's Edge. From the Pavement's Edge Archive. Friday, April 4. It doesn’t have to remain misunderstood. I know what it means for me. But what does “wilderness” mean to our society? Our National Forests shouldn’t be seen as a repository for money making potential. They shouldn’t be seen as large tree farms to wealthify a few. At the very least they should be seen for what they truly do function as: huge carbon sinks that scrub the air we need for survival of all life on the planet. But I am ...

From the Pavement's Edge. From the Pavement's Edge Archive. Thursday, December 21. The Slaughter of Civilization, Part I: The Combover Years. Previously, on From the Pavement’s Edge. Isn’t that the chorus of our binge watching lives now? I’m not going to start bashing you for binge-watching Breaking Bad. When I was younger I watched TV and movies to stoke my imagination.
