When we were in Tasmania during January, the weather decided to put on a bit of a show. There is not much between Tasmania and Antarctica but water and wind - and in the correct proportion those two ancient elements produce a third, rain. In abundance. When you walk on the hills in Tasmania you always need a full set of weatherproof kit - these pictures show you why!

The Puffin - or Atlanic Puffin or even The Common Puffin - is one of the star birds at Bempton Cliffs. It is far less numerous on the cliffs than some of the other birds, and they are certainly less abundant that on the Farne Islands. However, having to scan the cliffs with a little more care than at some locations seemed to make finding one (or even better two!

Thursday, May 28, 2015. SJWS - Monthly Bird Walk. The San Joaquin Wildlife Sanctuary. Has a monthly bird walk on the second Sunday of the month. In May, that just happened to be Mother's Day. Ryan was nice enough to let his bird-crazy mom drag him along at 8:00 AM on a Sunday morning on her first ever official bird walk. According to the guide's announcement at the end of the walk we saw or heard over 58 different species in the course of the 3 hour walk. It was such an amazing day! Ponds at the site.
