The Fine Print: Say What?!
http://theshivnit.blogspot.com/2007/08/say-what.html
Thursday, August 9, 2007. Ever been caught making a V-line. For the buffet table, wishing someone a Happy Valentime's Day, cruising the waters of the Specific Ocean, or singing Christmas carols about Jeff's nuts roasting on an open fire? Then you, my friend, have been the victim of a verbal accident more formally known as a. Came into being in the 1950s, when freelance writer and lecturer Sylvia Wright wrote that as a young girl, she had heard a Scottish ballad that included the lines. Or your rude third...

The Fine Print: Victory at Long Last
http://theshivnit.blogspot.com/2008/06/victory-at-long-last.html
Tuesday, June 17, 2008. Victory at Long Last. You're at the freaking DMV. Over the last three years, through multiple fruitless visits to the DMV, I have talked to countless paper-pushers who have all said the same thing: You need to have the MVA send us a duplicate title. (But how do they release a duplicate if they never received the original? Old) DMV records to verify that the car was purchased in California, issue a duplicate title, and. Adjust my car's value on record - all in one DMV trip!

The Fine Print: Book Review: The Perfect Mile
http://theshivnit.blogspot.com/2007/07/book-review-perfect-mile.html
Thursday, July 19, 2007. Book Review: The Perfect Mile. To overcome my inertia, I looked to Roger Bannister, John Landy and Wes Santee for some much-needed inspiration. They are the stars of Neal Bascomb's. A non-fictional book about three men on separate endeavors to run a four-minute mile. Each person's story is unique but the underlying theme of each runner's journey is his absolute devotion to the sport. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). Book Review: The Perfect Mile. The Fine Print: In Memoriam
http://theshivnit.blogspot.com/2008/02/in-memoriam.html
Friday, February 1, 2008. My grandfather passed away today. He was 96 years old. He had a heart attack, but the doctors said that heart attacks at that age are painless. Dada didn't even know what was happening to him. In fact, as the paramedics took him to the hospital, he kept insisting that he was fine. I wonder if he even believed them when they told him he had suffered a massive heart attack. We miss you, Dada. And today, we are celebrating your life and memory. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom).

The Fine Print: Finding Your -Ness
http://theshivnit.blogspot.com/2007/07/finding-your-ness.html
Wednesday, July 11, 2007. When Owen Wilson's character gives his motivational spiel at the end of "You, Me and Dupree," it's difficult not to jump out of your seat and embrace your own "ness," the very quality of being you. But as a suffix in the English language, is "ness" actually giving us more flexibility and freedom of expression (as Dupree would have it), or is it creating redundancy in an already-complicated language? For instance, what is the difference between "corruptness" and "corruptedness"?

The Fine Print: Nora wants to help YOU
http://theshivnit.blogspot.com/2007/08/nora-wants-to-help-you.html
Wednesday, August 29, 2007. Nora wants to help YOU. I received this email today from someone named Nora Silva, with "Nora wants to catch up" as the subject. I don't know any Nora Silvas, much less any Noras, but out of curiosity, I opened the email. Here's what I read, in its original form (i.e., no edits):. Hello, how are you? It's OK though because we have a product you will love. [And then she had a link here, which I refuse to open.]. 3 Nora then goes on to say she won't "beat around the bush," assur...

The Fine Print: Killer Comfort Food
http://theshivnit.blogspot.com/2008/01/killer-comfort-food.html
Thursday, January 17, 2008. I saw the Asian version of Anton Chigurh. This evening while I was in the check-out line at the grocery store, and I almost soiled myself. He purchased two very large cases of beer and some ice-cream. Not only is he a badass, he's also a Ralph's. Club cardholder who eats Rocky Road right. Out of the tub! The Fine Print: Kid Nation
http://theshivnit.blogspot.com/2007/09/kid-nation.html
Sunday, September 9, 2007. So where's the controversy? In order to achieve their goals, the children sometimes had to work fourteen-hour days, a fact that was anticipated (but probably not advertised) by show producers. In fact, the reason they chose New Mexico as the stage is because of the state's less stringent child labor laws. Loophole much? Why weren't they asking more questions about what the show would entail? Why would they allow their children to live in the middle of nowhere, essentially unsup...
