Ping Pong Diplomacy: Sevilla
http://pingpongdiplomacy.blogspot.com/2008/06/sevilla.html
The past weekend all of the program participants went to Sevilla for two days in a big pre-organized trip. Sevilla is a marvelously historic city with one of the largest cathedrals in the World. The Cathedral de Sevilla is massive inside and out with towering gothic arches and anchient carved furniture. The altar is a five-story-high, gold-painted cedar engraving, detailing all of the stories of the Bible. I felt like I could do that. Sevillanos hang sheets between buildings to create shade during th...

Ping Pong Diplomacy: Valle de los Caídos

Valle de los Caídos. The cross and entrance to the Basilica from the outside. Few people were there when we went. Many Spaniards refuse to visit the place. Foto: El cruz y entrada a la Basilica. Poca gente están alli cuando estamos. Muchos españoles no irán. Una bola de helado. I want a scoop of chocolate in a cup. I have none left. Life really isn’t so different here. Plus I feel nervous generalizing Spanish culture too much. Posted by Sgt. Freeloader. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom).

Ping Pong Diplomacy: Toledo
http://pingpongdiplomacy.blogspot.com/2008/06/toledo.html
John Edwards, the democratic candidate. Apparently he was there on vacation with his family before he met with President Zapatero of Spain. I don’t have any pictures because they don’t allow photography in the cathedral, but I assure you it was him. He smiled and waved and answered a few questions from our group then continued touring the cathedral with his wife. Panoramic view of Toledo. It is the same view that El Greco saw when he painted his famous work View of Toledo. Foto 2: Tambien cuelgan sábanas...

I have a really hectic schedule. Here’s generally how things work during the week. Mis días estan muy ocupados. En general esto es mi horario durante la semana. 7:30am - wake up and eat light breakfast of crackers, jam and fruit. 8:15am - leave for work taking the light rail trolley to Metro line 4 to line 7 to the Garcia Noblejas stop (I have to transfer trains twice). 9:25am – arrive at work and check mail and other things until my co-workers arrive (usually around 10:00am). 9:00pm – arrive home. 2:30p...

Ping Pong Diplomacy: Segovia
http://pingpongdiplomacy.blogspot.com/2008/06/segovia.html
The Roman aqueduct is amazing. It was built in the first century without any mortar. Basically its construction is a highly precise form of stacking stones on top on of one another. It is over 5 stories tall and continued to carry water to Segovia until the 1800’s. Ano es maravilloso. Fue creado en el siglo 1 sin cemento. Basicamente es una forma precisa de amonotar piedras. Es más alto que 5 pisos y llevaba agua a Segovia hasta siglo 19. View of the Alcazar from the Church of the Vera Cruz. The trucker ...

Ping Pong Diplomacy: The Bulls
http://pingpongdiplomacy.blogspot.com/2008/06/bulls.html
Last friday I went to a bull fight. Needless to say it was a unique experience, but I very much enoyed myself. I would describe the atmosphere as a mix between theater, rodeo and tennis. However, the event was much different than I had thought. El pasado viernes fui a una corrida de toros. Era una unica experiencia, pero me pasó muy bien. Describiría la atmosfera como una mezcla de teatro, rodeo y tenís. Sin embargo, el suceso era diferente que yo habia pensado. Obviously a lot depends on the bull. 8221;...

Ping Pong Diplomacy: First Post

The view from my bedroom window. I live pretty far from downtown, but fairly close to the airport. On clear days you can see planes taking off. Foto: La vista de mi habitación. Vivo lejos del centro de la ciudad, pero bastante cerca al aeropuerto. Con buen tiempo se puede ver aviones despegando. The first week I was here, the Spanish national police with cooperation from the French government captured the leader of ETA, a terrorist organization fighting for the independence of the Basque country. Hecho: ...
