Fluff Bakery: Savory and sweet comfort food. October 17, 2010 at 7:05 pm. On Monday, Sept. 27, husband and wife Jason and Jessica Kopelwitz celebrated the grand opening of their new Athens eatery: Fluff Bakery and Catering. Delectable display of scones and muffins at Fluff. As a “brewologist.” The couple was soon able to reunite with their favorite neighborhood Athens. But even before opening Fluff, Jessica had been providing desserts and treats for Donkey Coffee and Espresso. Donkey was the first place ...

Stay Tuned for FLUFF | I Like Food
https://amandachawkins.wordpress.com/2010/10/04/stay-tuned
Stay Tuned for FLUFF. October 4, 2010 at 10:44 pm. Last year I signed a lease for an apartment on Court Street – the Mecca, the center of Athens – specifically for an apartment across from Cold Stone Creamery. (Okay, maybe I didn’t choose my apartment because it was located in front of Cold Stone, but for drama, let’s say that’s the sole reason I moved above Subway.). Instead there was a sign that resembled graffiti that said “Fluff.” Uh, say Fluff? Devastated that I would never have the option of runnin...

Make Your Own O’Betty’s “Dixie” | I Like Food

Make Your Own O’Betty’s “Dixie”. October 15, 2010 at 4:12 pm. If you’re like me then you love a late-night snack from the hole-in-the-wall hotdog joint, O’Betty’s. I venture to this little place at least once every weekend and order me up my favorite – a “dixie” – a hotdog with chili, cheese, onions and mustard. So delicious! PS – Please forgive me when I yell “shut up” around the 3:15 mark – my roommate Matt had come home and decided to watch me and laugh at me. Oh my life. Stay Tuned for FLUFF.

GG’s Bubbles into Athens | I Like Food

GG’s Bubbles into Athens. October 27, 2010 at 2:22 pm. The awning in front of the newly-oepend, GG's Bubble Tea. When you enter GG’s Bubble Tea the bright colors, comfy couches, Foosball table and big-screen TV might surprise you. It’s not like Donkey, the dimly lit coffee shop on West Washington. And it’s not like the Front Room, the bustling university coffee shop in Baker Center. Foosball table and chalkboard calendar are visible right away when you enter GG's. However, the chewy tapioca pearls. Tapio...

Natalie Woodroof, Athens food expert. November 4, 2010 at 11:56 pm. This past Wednesday I had the great pleasure of talking with Natalie Woodroof, the communications manager at the Athens Visitor’s Bureau. And overseer of their 30 Mile Meal project. I initially interviewed Natalie for an assignment for another class, but she had so many wonderful things to say about Athens and the food here that I had to share our interview on my blog. The 30 Mile Meal project website is used to direct users to a number ...

Salaam om nom nom. November 1, 2010 at 9:17 pm. There are very few restaurants in Athens that I have not visited. I eat at Casa Nueva. At least once or twice a week. I frequently eat at Court Street Diner. As it is so conveniently located across the street from me. And I almost always get O’Betty’s. On Thursday nights after watching. Always Sunny in Philadelphia. The Mediterranean-style restaurant located next door to Donkey. A view of the Mediterranean restaurant. We had the restaurant all to ourselves&...

What’s For Lunch? | Odd Ohio
https://oddohio.wordpress.com/2011/03/13/whats-for-lunch
Strange places, people and things in Southeast Ohio. Snakes on a Plain →. What’s For Lunch? March 13, 2011. Last spring my friend Jacqlyn and I accompanied Pat. On one of his many trips around southeastern Ohio as he filmed stories for Athens Midday. One afternoon we journeyed west on State Route 56 to Etta’s Lunchbox Cafe and Museum. A small, independently-owned museum ran by Timothy and LaDora Seewer. Ugh, my man voice makes another appearance in this video. In Marietta, or the Toy and Plastic Museum.

Purple Chopstix | I Like Food
https://amandachawkins.wordpress.com/2010/09/27/purple-chopstix
September 27, 2010 at 7:47 pm. Last Thursday I spent a few minutes speaking with Gabriel Fisher, cook and son of the owner, of Purple Chopstix. OK, so my blog that I’m doing is called I Love Food and it’s just all about different Athens’ restaurants, obviously in the Athens area and stuff like that, so my first question is when was Purple Chopstix founded or opened? I believe around like, 1990, maybe he got the building ’89, around there. So did he just like get bored with those, or. OK, so my next quest...
