Individuals with PCA often struggle with anxiety and depression. Their insight to the disease and their loss of independence is a loss that is difficult and isolating. Patients struggle with denial, confabulating to cover up their symptoms, loss of self-confidence and fear of the future. The symptoms of PCA can vary from one person to the next and can change as the condition progresses some include:. Recognizing faces (for example TV characters, friends, relatives). Judging the speed of moving traffic.

There is no proven treatment for PCA. Drugs such as acetylcholinesterase inhibitors such as donepezil that are treatments for Alzheimer’s are frequently administered to help with dementia symptoms. Antidepressants drugs have benefit for patients with persistent low mood. Occupational therapy or sensory team for aid in adapting to the visual changes and other PCA symptoms, especially for visual changes. Psychologist for support and coping. Caregiver support groups to learn how to support your loved one.
