The life of a peace corps volunteer in senegal. Exercising the young minds of Senegal. My room suddenly feels like some sort of progressive Koranic school. Two talibe kids are sitting on my floor coloring, Mozart fills the air and I sit in a chair sipping coffee. I just handed them each a ripped out coloring book page and they stared at me like I was stupid. Their looks seemed to say, "This already has a drawing on it! Plea to the wallets of America. I met Jesus today while I was sitting on the curb outs...

The life of a peace corps volunteer in senegal. I made a hat. yea. Don't judge me, but, I cried my first tears in Senegal several nights ago. They were not tears of physical pain. They were not tears of cultural frustration. They were not tears of 'why can't you speak english! They were not tears of 'please don't make me eat rice and fish again'. They were tears of longing; Longing to be with those I love at home. Don't get me wrong, I love. 160;in America that get to me. . Journal entry 10.10.08. 8220;O...

The life of a peace corps volunteer in senegal. This is all you get. Training I put together was successful. Host father passed away suddenly (this was very difficult). Intense riots in my neighborhood (destroyed buildings, tire burnings, fires, tear gas, beatings, rock throwing, theft, car running over people). Staying busy with work and loving it. That's the gist of it. I promise that once I can comprehensibly order my thoughts on paper you all will get details. I miss and love you all.

The life of a peace corps volunteer in senegal. 4th of July Memory. I apologize for my long absence from the blogging world. Constant power cuts make it difficult to do anything on the computer these days. I have so much to share that it's a bit overwhelming to think about getting it all here, but I will try. Keep checking back because I will probably be back dating entries as I type them up. 4th of July bike trip memory. From Dindefello Bike Trip. From Dindefello Bike Trip. From Dindefello Bike Trip.

Where the starbucks end. Thursday, December 18, 2008. Hadiatou brings popcorn "pop-kabba" to the village. Family goes crazy and don't believe it's corn. We sit around a lunch bowl to eat it like every other meal. Kid gets slapped for dropping a piece on the ground. I will give them as prizes in an oral-fecal cycle quiz, with the hopes that the new owners will break them immediately. Tuesday, December 16, 2008. Where the starbucks end. Saturday, December 19, 2009. Who doesn’t love a dance party? Especially if the other participants agree that YOU are the best dancer? But wait… aren’t I in Africa, land of people who dance in their wombs and who couldn’t do anything out of rhythm if they tried? And isn’t this ME, we’re talking about, not someone who, in fact, CAN dance? The toddlers got plenty of practice time and were encouraged by all the family members around them who also had nothing else to do. The complets ...
