Kev's Blog: Hiking Club on New Years Day
http://hikev.blogspot.com/2015/01/hiking-club-on-new-years-day.html
Saturday, January 10, 2015. Hiking Club on New Years Day. Afternoon shine off the ocean. Hiking Club was out in Griffith Park on NY Day, to climb Mt Hollywood and visit the Griffith Observatory. It started out cold, but the seven hikers of our group warmed up under the sun and found it to be the perfect way to start 2015. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). Subscribe To Kev's Blog! Kev's Blog: June 13: Hiking Club on Echo Mtn
http://hikev.blogspot.com/2015/06/june-13-hiking-club-on-echo-mtn.html
Thursday, June 18, 2015. June 13: Hiking Club on Echo Mtn. Hiking Club had a group of 12 to climb Echo Mountain above Altadena, but the marine layer was thick enough to cover even the summit! No matter, we had fun anyway. Ruins of Echo Mtn House. Our group by the old bullwheel that drove the cable incline railway. Photo in the drizzle. I recognized Ric and Jen Serena, two of the filmmakers who made the outstanding JMT film, Mile.Mile and A Half. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). Subscribe To Kev's Blog!

Kev's Blog: Spotted While Hiking
http://hikev.blogspot.com/2015/07/spotted-while-hiking.html
Saturday, July 11, 2015. On my local hike, I've seen lots of animals around sunset, and in July I sometimes see tarantulas, but this was new. Tonight right on the trail I found a tarantula hawk dragging away its prey. The tarantula hawk is a giant wasp that preys on tarantulas - sort of. It's one of the nastiest tales in nature. Kev's Blog: March 21 on Mt Baden-Powell
http://hikev.blogspot.com/2015/03/march-21-on-mt-baden-powell.html
Sunday, March 22, 2015. March 21 on Mt Baden-Powell. Came back today to try out my new trail crampons on 9400' Mt B-P, and they not only did the job, but were a lot of fun, and got me to thinking about their use to extend the season in the Sierras. On years the Sierras have snow, I mean. The north-facing slope of the mountain. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). Subscribe To Kev's Blog! View my complete profile. Tuesday, January 13, 2015. Where does he get all those wonderful toys! Where America shops, of course. When you're the Caped Crusader, you quadruple park. Because you CAN. Kev's Blog: October 18: Ocean View from Boney Mountain
http://hikev.blogspot.com/2014/11/october-18-ocean-view-from-boney.html
Sunday, November 9, 2014. October 18: Ocean View from Boney Mountain. I took this shot from the summit of 3111' Boney Mountain in the western Santa Monicas. Boney Mountain is the highest peak in the range, and on clear days offers a view of the Channel Islands. Today I could count five of them. This paraglider was circling the peak. Kev's Blog: On Mt Baden-Powell X36, this time in winter
http://hikev.blogspot.com/2015/02/on-mt-baden-powell-x36-this-time-in.html
Sunday, February 15, 2015. On Mt Baden-Powell X36, this time in winter. In winter when the air is dry and clear, the low afternoon sun sets up a shine off the water that highlights the ocean very well. I could identify the Channel Islands, including Santa Barbara Island 95 miles southwest, and 11,000' Telescope Peak in Death Valley NP and 12,000' Olancha Peak in the south Sierra, both about 130 miles north. The summit register box, and ocean shine. Across to 10,000' Mt Baldy. Subscribe To Kev's Blog!
