The Pacific Crest Trailway
The Pacific Crest Trailway. Was one of the first books ever published about the Pacific Crest Trail. This book was compiled by Clinton C. Clarke and published in 1945. As Mr. Clarke notes that this material "was obtained through 13 years of research and exploration by officials of the National Park Service and the National Forest Service, scientific and nature organizations, and capable explorers who covered all the regions of the Pacific Crest Trailway.". Was also something I didn't expect to see.

NorCal Hiker – PCT 2016. Thru hiking the Pacific Crest Trail in 2016! Days 14 to 16 (Miles 252 to 293.8). We fell asleep to howling wind at Ziggy and the Bear’s. It did not die down as we slept, but grew stronger. I awoke at some point in the middle of the night and watched as somebody’s air mattress flew through the air. He must have gotten up without weighing it down with something. Fortunately he caught it before it flew over the fence. Short hike; camping 6 miles past Onyx Summit. This is exciting be...

NorCal Hiker – PCT 2016. Thru hiking the Pacific Crest Trail in 2016! Days 4 to 6 (Mile 47.5 to 101.5). In the past few days after leaving Laguna Campground, we made it through 54 miles of desert including a 25 mile dry stretch. We’ve been carrying up to 12 liters of water in some sections. (I carry 5, Rob carries 7. He claims that this is equitable based on body weight, but I still feel a little bit bad about carrying less.). Chili with chili cheese Fritos! This was the best! Third gate water cache!

NorCal Hiker – PCT 2016. Thru hiking the Pacific Crest Trail in 2016! Days 7 to 10 (Miles 101.5 to 151.9). At Barrel Spring, we awoke to the sound of rain on the tent. NorCal Hiker – PCT 2016. Thru hiking the Pacific Crest Trail in 2016! Days 31 & 32 (Miles 530 to 558). Despite our proximity to the Iberdrola wind farm, we had a calm night camped amongst the Joshua trees. The wind had been howling the day before. Several people gave us advice on which tent sites would be most sheltered, but we seemed to have some kind of crazy luck and the wind completely died down. We spent the day walking through the wind farm, then up into the Tehachapi Mountains. May 2, 2016. I am s...

Youngblood took off around 4:30 this morning; the rest of us packed up just after sunrise. Woke up with this on the tent! We started climbing gradually up to Mt. Laguna. A hiker I’ll call Singer. Passed us a few times along the way. I said my final goodbye to Tecate Peak, looking south into Mexico, as we transitioned from chaparral into pine forest. A little before sunset Singer joined ...

December 17th, 2017]. The PCT Planner turns 20 years old today! Next year it can go drinking, which if you were to look at the Perl code that I wrote back in 1997, you'd swear I was the one doing the drinking. Anyway, I have updates to make to it but have a different PCT project to finish up first over the next few months, so they are going to have to wait a bit longer. More details are on the home page. Welcome to Craig's PCT Planner. Determining how many days of food are needed between resupply points.
