PCV Amanda Cham: September 2014
http://pcvamandacham.blogspot.com/2014_09_01_archive.html
Thursday, September 25, 2014. I've watched the same cow poop on my morning run for the past three days. How does the cow know that I am about to run? Also, how does a cow walk, chew, hold its tail really high, and poop all at the same time? Tambien, is that diarrhea or is it just falling really far? Tuesday, September 23, 2014. Don't go to the gas station. When I get a ride home. 8230;when I pay for a ride home. My house is right down the street from the gas station. I'll pay you the agreed upon rate.

PCV Amanda Cham: Don't go to the gas station.
http://pcvamandacham.blogspot.com/2014/09/dont-go-to-gas-station.html
Tuesday, September 23, 2014. Don't go to the gas station. When I get a ride home. 8230;when I pay for a ride home. I really don't like it when the chauffeur goes to the gas station and then holds out his hand indicating that I need to pay for the gas. My house is right down the street from the gas station. I'll pay you the agreed upon rate. Then you can go to the 24 hour gas station on your way out of my site using the money I gave you. None of the above matters at all…. PCV Amanda Cham: Help me have a Thanksgiving. (In which Amanda begs for money, a little... but not really.)
http://pcvamandacham.blogspot.com/2013/08/help-me-have-thanksgiving-in-which.html
Saturday, August 10, 2013. Help me have a Thanksgiving. (In which Amanda begs for money, a little. but not really.). Thanksgiving is expensive when you are far away from America and your entire income is $300 a month, max, so we get around that by begging our family for money. I've been told there is a way to pay directly to my ticket for Thanksgiving, but I don't know how that works. I will put the link at the bottom of the letter, and if you want to donate to PCDR Thanksgiving, feel free. If yo...Every...

An American Girl in the Dominican Republic: Dominicanisms Part 1
http://susandr.blogspot.com/2013/04/dominicanisms-part-1.html
An American Girl in the Dominican Republic. Follow my triumphs and trials as I serve in the Peace Corps. April 24, 2013. I have lived in the Dominican Republic for 49 days. In that brief period of time I have become acquainted with A LOT of words and phrases that are almost exclusively used by Dominicans. Below is an alphabetical list of the Dominicanisms I have so far discovered, it is so long I am splitting it into two parts. Enjoy! Amarrar la chiva- goes to work but does nothing while there. Conjo - e...

An American Girl in the Dominican Republic: Dominican Music
http://susandr.blogspot.com/2014/10/dominican-music.html
An American Girl in the Dominican Republic. Follow my triumphs and trials as I serve in the Peace Corps. October 8, 2014. You will never be asked to turn down your music in the Dominican Republic. Why? Because blasting your music is part of being Dominican. How did blasting music at all hours of the day become socially acceptable? For an entire month I was woken up by this song:. It was a rough month. Decide who you prefer by listening to two of their most popular songs. Dembow is a new and evolving genr...

An American Girl in the Dominican Republic: Creepy Crawlies
http://susandr.blogspot.com/2014/08/creepy-crawlies.html
An American Girl in the Dominican Republic. Follow my triumphs and trials as I serve in the Peace Corps. August 19, 2014. First night in the D.R. One of the many reasons to use a mosquito net. They can be found everywhere. Many communities, like mine, do not have running water, so there is always stagnate water around for mosquitoes to breed in. They can infect humans with the Dengue, Chikunguya. Tarantulas aren't so scary when they are dead. Not to be mistaken with their harmless cousin the millipede, c...

An American Girl in the Dominican Republic: The Long Goodbye
http://susandr.blogspot.com/2015/02/the-long-goodbye.html
An American Girl in the Dominican Republic. Follow my triumphs and trials as I serve in the Peace Corps. February 20, 2015. Goodbyes can be awkward and emotional. Which is why I am not enjoying my current long and strung-out goodbye with the Dominican Republic. Some of the kids have gotten possessive of my stuff. Something I am still trying to figure-out is what am I going to do with all the stuff I have accumulated over the past two years? My neighbors want my cat too - but he is coming with me! Sentars...

An American Girl in the Dominican Republic: The Pros and Cons of Moving Out
http://susandr.blogspot.com/2013/08/the-pros-and-cons-of-moving-out.html
An American Girl in the Dominican Republic. Follow my triumphs and trials as I serve in the Peace Corps. August 29, 2013. The Pros and Cons of Moving Out. I am therefore super excited to move out of my host family's house and into one with me, myself, and I. Sure, I will still be able to hear my neighbor's TVs and radios but at least in my house I will not have a television on maximum volume all day long, no matter if someone is watching it or not. I will have a private space bigger than a small dorm room.
