Wednesday, December 2, 2009. Notable Rule 5 Draft Eligibles. Below is a list of guys who i think are eligible after cruising the blog-o-sphere and may be able to stick with a big league team:. Cubs): Backup, hit .326 at Iowa this past year. Baseball America had more names on their list with some reports from scouts, which I would take more then this. Of course, another route to go is to select a younger guy you like and then attempt to negotiate a trade to keep them in the system. OAK @ TB 5/18/09.

Sunday, January 15, 2012. 2011 Amateur Draft Board. Tried to write this on Facebook, but it was being a pain in the ass. Similar to last year, I have compiled reports on the 2011 Amateur Draft. I have written over 250 reports on players with video I acquired myself (over 225 games) to get a good look at these players. I would draft any player graded above 35. The draft board, with summaries on players grading 50 or higher, is below:. 1 - Andrew Susac (Oregon State) - 55. 2 - James McCann (Arkansas) - 50.

Thursday, January 28, 2010. The Blog Will Live On! The Blog will live on, but will undergo a change in the type of data available. This blog will now focus primarily on minor league reports for the upcoming baseball season. I have subscribed to MILB.TV, so I will break down 3 or 4 game series as they become available. Look for this blog to return in mid to late April. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). The Blog Will Live On! Keep Turnin' Up the Heat! Checking in on the hot stove. OAK @ TB 5/18/09.

Monday, February 8, 2010. First 2 Weeks of June (Final Post). This will be the final blog posting, as I have gained a position with a major league team and this blog will now no longer have info put in it. Boston Red Sox (Pitchers). About the only Low-A series I watched involved Greenville. First the pitchers. RHP Stolmy Pimentel. Is a 23 year old who operates with an okay fastball and a slurve that is a little loopy which he also appears to tip based on his arm action. More of an organizational arm.

Sunday, November 15, 2009. The Minor League Free Agents. Everyone makes a big deal about the major league free agents, with good reason. However, minor league free agents are something that can help accelerate the rebuilding process. Attached below is the list by Baseball America of all the minor league free agents currently available. Http:/ www.baseballamerica.com/blog/prospects/? Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). The Minor League Free Agents. Pitching, Defense, and the Three Run Homer. OAK @ TB 5/18/09.

Monday, November 2, 2009. Under The Radar Moves: October. By Royals from Mexican League. Taylor, a 32 year old OF, hit .249-.300-.429 split between 2 teams in the Mexican League. Likely just AAA filler. Filed For Free Agency. Missed all of 2009 after undergoing Tommy John Surgery. In 1 inning in the majors with the Marlins, allowed 5 earned runs. Had a 5.84 ERA with the Dodgers before going down in May with a season ending arm injury. 1-Year Deal, though he may get just a minor league deal. Young, the to...

Wednesday, January 13, 2010. I have stuck to a list of around 300 some players breaking down the AAA video. Most of the AAA video is fairly good with a CF camera allowing you to see pitch movement and how a hitters aligns. Any velocities I find on here are thanks to Durham, who hooked up their stadium gun to their "telecast" and that is useful. If you have questions on anyone not mentioned, feel free to make a comment. More then likely I have watched them. Formerly a Tiger) and Eric Duncan. Pitched again...

Sunday, November 1, 2009. Scouting: Does Anyone Really Know? Amateur scouting (any sport) is one of the most inexact sciences in this world. Scouts are constantly asked to evaluate a prospect and attempt to project them out 3 or 4 years down the road. I got my 1st real attempt at doing this last year. The Rays just went through some of their minor league releases and within that were some guys I scouted:. FB (85-89), CB (75-76), SL (80-82), CU (75-76). 19th round pick out of Boston College (575th overall).

Tuesday, January 12, 2010. My Player Development Philosophy. As I get closer to possibly getting a job with a major league team, figured I would share my personal philosophy on what I would do if I were ever in that position (and this is definitely open to transitioning as I gain more knowledge of the process with a job in the industry). Plus, nothing like putting this together to help you think. This criteria is mainly for my initial hirings of the position. I believe promotion from within is very i...
