What's a farmer in a lady's business suit, sitting at a computer, unable to use the carbohydrates she ingests? My waist is thicker. My face is rounder. My axe is heavier. The hills are steeper. Monday, January 21, 2013. Our farm will have at least 25 acres. One or two for our garden and the market garden, a couple for the orchard, five for the woodlot, house, barns and other outbuildings, and 16 or so acres divided up between pasture, hay ground, and maybe some grains. Of course we will have to have at least one cow. I'd like a Guernsey for milk, and a couple of Angus for beef - plus, I have some ideas about Angus cattle and their issues with feed efficiency. Wednesday, March 6, 2013. Perhaps our most ancient cultivated grain, domesticated approximately 7500 BC. With almost twice as much protein as modern wheat. My seed sprouted. I'm so excited. The seed was seriously difficult to get my hands on. Don't ask where I finally got it. But I have it, and it's growing! Because einkorn is most likely a winter wheat, I'll probably have to transplant it once it's all sprouted and keep it in the fridge for a month. False winter, so to speak. Let the adventure begin.

Eleven pigs were born to Cindy, my raspberry wine of handpicked berries is fermenting, cider started in February is bottled and delicious, and tonight- tonight we burn the wood trash from hewing locust fence posts.
