They Called it Peanut Field

They Called it Peanut Field. Friday, October 22, 2010. My T-6 "tail dragger" experience paid off well and I got checked out quickly. The L-20 to me was just a high wing T-6. To others it was to be avoided because of its tendency to ground loop and generally get people in trouble. I used to take the L-20 out on weekends for "strolls" around the French countryside. Flying over little villages, you could see colorful celebrations, weddings, etc., from a vantage point which was spectacular. WHICH WAY IS UP?

They Called it Peanut Field: April 2010

http://peanutfield.blogspot.com/2010_04_01_archive.html

They Called it Peanut Field. Thursday, April 1, 2010. We got to Vandalia and my father said, "Let's take a walk and look at the airplanes." He invited my mother, but she declined and remained in the car. In about ten minutes he returned to the car, alone. My mother said, "Where's Kenny? My dad pointed at a departing Piper Cub (yellow, naturally), and said, "There he goes! From my perspective, this was the most memorable day of my life so far! MY FIRST INSTRUCTOR (F). The day we were assigned instructors,...

They Called it Peanut Field. Sunday, August 8, 2010. In the 1950s and '60s, a jet fighter pilot zealously protected his good fortune to fly high, low and fast. He avoided any opportunity to fly a multi-engine, large aircraft for fear that "someone" would screen his FORM 5 and find some non fighter time and tap him for a flying assignment in the big birds. I came into the Squadron one day and Maj. Smith came up to me and said, "Don't you like it here, Ken? I said, "Yes, I do. Why do you ask? Select USAF, ...

They Called it Peanut Field: Chapter 5

http://peanutfield.blogspot.com/2010/08/chapter-5.html

They Called it Peanut Field. Tuesday, August 3, 2010. I was checked out immediately in the T-33/F-80. They had been able to get some F¬86E aircraft, and some of the ATOs had already flown the F-86 at Nellis AFB, Nevada, which was the USAF Fighter Weapons School. In addition to the T-29 Convairs, the Academy also had several B-25 "Mitchell" bombers. The T-29s, incidentally, were justified for the Academy to provide navigator training to the cadets. WE LEARN BY DOING (F). THE HIGH SPEED PORPOISE (F). Lt Jo...
