Made the change and will send out a flyer by the end of the day. In case of a dispute, from now on you have to use informal negotiation via email or through arbitration. I can barely manage to get my bank balance by email let alone try to negotiate, and although arbitration may be an efficient way to settle disputes, how do I know the arbitrator will not favor powerful, wealthy General Mills? That’s a worrisome trend, to put it mildly. What if General Motors put in place a similar rule? Some drugs are so...

My Thanksgiving trip to Charleston, S.C., almost didn’t happen. Friends were to drive me to Union Station (the new departure point for the Connecticut Limo) which I was taking to go to Bradley Airport. Due to a misunderstanding, they never came to pick me up. Even though in recent years I’ve simplified my Christmas giving, this year I find Christmas approaching at a pace I’m unable to match. At my present rate of speed, I might just be ready by Valentine’s Day. I don’t know of anyone who did that! I̵...

Pearce Plus Senior Services: There is so much joy to be savored in the moment, so slow down

There is so much joy to be savored in the moment, so slow down. During a recent effort to get rid of some of the ever-increasing volume of accumulated paperwork, I came across the outline for a seminar I had given some years ago on time management. In re-reading the outline, it was obvious that the intent is to make the entire day as productive as possible. Every hour was broken down into segments in which you had to complete a specific task. When our children get upset, we call for a “timeout....Yale Ri...

Give Henry S. Miller’s ‘The Serious Pursuit of Happiness’ calendar a try. January: A Month of Hope and Plans —Write one small positive goal each morning of each day of January and a plan to make it a reality. February: A Month of Gratitude — The best antidote to greed, envy and jealousy. We feel much happier when we are grateful for what we have, rather than envious of what we don’t. Each night, write down three things for which you are grateful: your relationships, work, family, etc. August: Month of He...

My Spring Fashion Review comes out a bit early this season. In Guatemala, which they started supporting in 2004. They were recognized as the first donors who had faith in a second effort for the rebuilding of the hospital. Pearce Plus Senior Services: New Haven Woman’s Club gathered one last time for lunch recently
http://pearceplusseniors.blogspot.com/2014/04/new-haven-womans-club-gathered-one-last.html
New Haven Woman’s Club gathered one last time for lunch recently. I was surprised and delighted by a recent invitation to join the New Haven Woman’s Club for lunch at the beautiful Sage American Grill in New Haven, but my pleasure turned to sadness when I learned that this group, in existence since 1913, which had accomplished so much over the years, was having its final get-together. A women’s reading club started in 1900 in Madison by Mary Eliza Scranton is now the Scranton Public Library. One lasting ...
