Peas-N-Taters

Saturday, July 23, 2016. The Good, the Bad and the Ugly. OK, first some triumphs! First big red tomato in the garden today! I've had handfuls of cherry tomatoes for a week or so, but this was the first ripe full size 'mater. Next to the tomatoes, the scarlet runner beans are flowering and are so pretty! More Cabbage. There were also two purple cabbages that we made into a yummy cabbage, crunchy Ramen noodle salad. Saved one leaf to show you how pretty they were! Onions curing in the sun. OK, and now the ...

Peas-N-Taters: May 2015

http://peasntaters.blogspot.com/2015_05_01_archive.html

Tuesday, May 26, 2015. Veggie Garden May 2015. Finally took some pics of my garden this season! Here we have the two remaining 4'x4' raised beds (one recently replaced and one that needs replacing! And one of my big tilled beds, separated into three sections with walking boards. The round bed is Zach's garden. he hasn't decided what he wants to plant there this year yet. It's fun seeing what he does with that little space. The first section of the tilled bed is fava beans! Back section is more tomatoes&#...

Thursday, May 19, 2016. May 19th Garden Update - Pinwheels Galore! So after bragging in my last post that I'd figured out how to outsmart the rabbits. the rabbits proved me wrong. Dang it. They chomped my precious cabbages. We'd had a lot of rain, so I guess the Liquid Fence washed away. I Googled like crazy looking for other rabbit repellent ideas. Best bets seemed to be slices of Ivory Soap left in dishes around the garden , and pinwheels. They're working so far! A little bigger; Right? Moving on. ...

Peas-N-Taters: March 2015

http://peasntaters.blogspot.com/2015_03_01_archive.html

Friday, March 13, 2015. First Gardening Post of 2015! There's not much to write about yet, but I *did* start my broccoli seeds! That's actually my second attempt at starting broccoli this year. There's a "seedling heat mat" under the tray, and the cats like to scrunch in with the cups o' plants because it's nice and cozy warm. So yeah, Tuesday Ninja managed to tip over the entire tray. Dirt and baby broccoli plants everywhere! Their seed packets are so pretty! Hope we love them! Sungold Tomatoes. The...

Peas-N-Taters: June 2016

http://peasntaters.blogspot.com/2016_06_01_archive.html

Thursday, June 9, 2016. Garden Update 6/8/16 - Volunteers R Us. Welcome to the garden! I added netting to the bed to try to thwart the birds and chipmunks. So far so good! I'm super thrilled about the clumps of volunteer arugula that have popped up around this bed (that's zucchini sprouting *in* the bed itself). Arugula is yummy and I didn't plant any this year, so this was an awesome surprise! And it's healthy too! And haven't had to buy seeds since. They just show up! I see some tendrils. Some of these...

The sometimes tragic, mostly honest, irreverently hopeful confessions of a striving gardener. Wanted: plant thieves with “cojones the size of bowling balls”. Plant porn Phriday: titillating tuber. June 14, 2013. Friday, Friday, Friday, Friday, Friday, Friday… and almost summer too! Hooray for plant porn! Big thanks to my cousin Nicole, who shares my endless amusement with saucy specimens, for this “Dicktater.” The punch line really makes it. Nature’s bounty never ceases to amaze! The sometimes tragic, mostly honest, irreverently hopeful confessions of a striving gardener. Winter, let loose your icy grip! Wanted: plant thieves with “cojones the size of bowling balls” →. May 21, 2013. Meet the Beyonce of kale! I was wondering a month ago who was alive under all that snow… what gruesome green creature might emerge. And here we have it: Destiny’s kale. She’s a survivor! She’s not goin’ give up! Looks like I’ll eat something I planted last fall yet! Alone again… naturally. Winter, let...

The sometimes tragic, mostly honest, irreverently hopeful confessions of a striving gardener. That’s why they call it window pain…. Destiny’s kale →. Winter, let loose your icy grip! April 1, 2013. Happy Easter, shugs! I just found it funny that the snow in my yard has now melted almost everywhere EXCEPT the garden. The snow is like… you want in here? I can’t wait to see if my “late-season” kale is still alive under there. Or — even creepier — if it comes back. Return of the living kale! You are commenti...

Peas N Q's Kitchen

Peas N Q's Kitchen. Approach two things with reckless abandon: Love and Cooking! Sunday, July 11, 2010. For the last month or so, I've been very focused on my other hobby - jewelry making - for a very good reason.my "girl" Danielle was getting married and I was asked to make her necklace and earrings as well as those for the maid of honor. Danielle is the oldest daughter of my best friend of 30 years, so I am a de facto auntie and was so honored to make this special gift! 1/2 lb. linguine. The aromas, th...

Peas & Queues

Monday, May 6, 2013. A recap- and a major introduction! I've been leaving you hanging for far too long. What's been going on in Jenny's life? Is she too busy or stressed out or too happy to write? What's going on. What is her excuse? I don't have one- except for the fact that I have been absorbing every sunshine-y spring moment in the last couple of months. I have been traveling, workshopping, adventuring, multi-tasking, reading, planning, messing up, eating, not sleeping, and writing. Jess lives in Chic...
