George's Bikes: May 2015
http://georgebike.blogspot.com/2015_05_01_archive.html
Tuesday, May 12, 2015. The 2015 Amgen Tour of California. The lead break away approached Auburn. The 2015 edition of the Amgen Tour of California brushed by the eastern edge of Auburn yesterday, so I decided to ride up and watch the racers fly by. The lead breakaway reached us at just about 12:15, having started in Nevada City at 11:00. An hour and 15 minutes to cover a stretch that has taken me at least twice that time! They were moving at a smart pace at this point. That's a little ego-deflating! I got...

George's Bikes: February 2015
http://georgebike.blogspot.com/2015_02_01_archive.html
Saturday, February 28, 2015. February jaunt to Yankee Jims. Todd arriving at the Yankee Jims Road Bridge over the North Fork of the American. Unusually mild weather this February has allowed for a fair amount of riding in NoCal this year. Riding buddy Todd and I decided to have a go at a longer ride, we initially planned to ride around Folsom but changed our minds while en route. And decided to head up to Colfax, ride across the North Fork of the American river, then get up to Foresthill. Where has summe...

George's Bikes: This year's century.
http://georgebike.blogspot.com/2015/06/this-years-century.html
Wednesday, June 10, 2015. Dog Bar Bridge at Bear River. I guess retired life agrees with me, since I was able to ride my normal century ride at the end of May this year, as opposed to later in the Summer as has been my routine in the past years. Like last year, I rode in a counter-clockwise route, going to Auburn, Meadow Vista, Grass Valley, Olivehurst, Wheatland, Lincoln and back to Loomis. Along Dog Bar Road, heading toward Grass Valley. On the climb to Grass Valley; This year, no water flowing! I road...

George's Bikes: November 2014
http://georgebike.blogspot.com/2014_11_01_archive.html
Friday, November 14, 2014. The bikes of the Camino de Santiago. I only saw a couple of touring bikes, they looked like Surly LHT's from the distance I saw them. I couldn't get a decent picture of those. Generally, the typical "Camino Bike" was an MTB, either hardtail or full suspension. I also saw a few hybrids. Good reason to use an MTB(or the closest paved road). Most if not all bikes I saw were equipped with panniers and a fair amount of gear. The great thing about the Camino is that you will have...

George's Bikes: An economical super compact road crank.
http://georgebike.blogspot.com/2015/04/an-economical-super-compact-road-crank.html
Tuesday, April 7, 2015. An economical super compact road crank. Shimano "RSX" triple road crank re-purposed into a wide-range compact double. I also tried converting an old Shimano STX 94mm BCD MTB crank. This wasn't entirely successful because the shape of the inner face of the spider pushed the chainrings too far outboard. 490 for the 601! A look at the inner side, the large ring was reversed to allow the chainwheel bolts to be recessed a bit. Basically, what you're doing here is removing the middle ch...

George's Bikes: July 2015
http://georgebike.blogspot.com/2015_07_01_archive.html
Tuesday, July 21, 2015. Here's a "Run the Map" screen shot of the route. Shelly went off for her annual Lake Tahoe trip recently so I found myself with a free day to ride! Quiet morning on the ARP. Even though I've lived in this region for over 20 years now, you can count the number of times I've ridden on the Parkway on one hand! As far as Lake Natomas, things were quiet, but it did start to pick up after that point, I'm glad I didn't start any later! How easy was that! Heading up the Garden Highway.

George's Bikes: March 2015
http://georgebike.blogspot.com/2015_03_01_archive.html
Tuesday, March 10, 2015. An S24O bike trip up Foresthill Divide Road. The Mercian setup for an overnight trip using the Carradice Camper and Rivendell Boxy Handlebar bag. Shelly was having an all-female dinner party the other day so I had to be out of the house for the evening. I thought, why not just be gone all night? I began planning a "Sub 24 Hour Overnight" campout, otherwise known as an S24O in Rivendell and bike tourist circles on the web now. Had to stop at Worton's for a sandwich and the view.

Sunday, April 13, 2014. Yankee Jims, the other way around! Yankee Jims Bridge over the North Fork of the American River. Got a day free to ride so I decided to do my Yankee Jims Loop which involves some decent gravel road riding. This year I did the loop opposite of my usual route, riding from Colfax to Foresthill via Yankee Jims rather than vise versa. It suprises me how the same ride changes simply by reversing direction, in this case, I'd say for the better! Heading down to the river from Colfax.
