This first 1/4 mile has been tidied up and there are seats, lights and a dry path, leading to the spot where the water stops abruptly and you can walk on the old canal under the A629 and past the 2 ponds where water used to be fed into the canal. The extra entertainment of the kayakers made everyone smile, but there was better to come, as, just around the bend crept a barge, Oasis. Big, perhaps 50 or so feet long by 10ft wide, blue with a lime-green trim, not a scratch on it, it was chugging gently along with 3 people at the back and one more inside.
