Pedal Power PDX: Fun weekend

http://pedalpowerpdx.blogspot.com/2007/07/fun-weekend.html

This is a blog about car-free life in America, sustainability issues, the rapidly-developing solar business, traveling, and whatever adventures my wife, Jill, and I come up with. Sunday, July 15, 2007. This has been a great weekend, lots of good stuff going on. Actually, too much good stuff - we had to skip the first-year anniversary party for our local coffee shop, The Funky Door. Anyway, on Friday night Jill and I went to see a couple of local b. I know a few people there through Shift. And onto the Ea...

Pedal Power PDX: Air conditioning blows (and how to get by without it)

http://pedalpowerpdx.blogspot.com/2007/07/air-conditioning-blows-and-how-to-get.html

This is a blog about car-free life in America, sustainability issues, the rapidly-developing solar business, traveling, and whatever adventures my wife, Jill, and I come up with. Tuesday, July 10, 2007. Air conditioning blows (and how to get by without it). Had to take a long break to deal with a lot of work issues]. Here are a few things that I do to beat the heat, while saving lots of money (and the environment):. 1) Live in the right place. 2) Install a solar attic fan. People can either install thems...

Pedal Power PDX: Another fun weekend (and good week)

http://pedalpowerpdx.blogspot.com/2007/07/another-fun-weekend-and-good-week.html

This is a blog about car-free life in America, sustainability issues, the rapidly-developing solar business, traveling, and whatever adventures my wife, Jill, and I come up with. Sunday, July 22, 2007. Another fun weekend (and good week). Hmmsomehow a whole week slipped by since the last post. Ah well, it was a relatively busy week and weekend. Some highlights:. Going to Corvallis yesterday for the annual da Vinci Days. We spent a big chunk of the day working on honeymoon plans. We've got a kickass t...

This is a blog about car-free life in America, sustainability issues, the rapidly-developing solar business, traveling, and whatever adventures my wife, Jill, and I come up with. Tuesday, August 7, 2007. We can hardly contain ourselves! Here's what we've got planned:. 8/26: Leave way too early in the morning, fly to Newark and then Copenhagen. Stroget, supposedly the world's longest pedestrian mall. Tivoli Gardens, a Danish amusement park with their own pyrotechnics staff. 9/2-9/3: Take a train to Arhus,...

Pedal Power PDX: October 2007

http://pedalpowerpdx.blogspot.com/2007_10_01_archive.html

This is a blog about car-free life in America, sustainability issues, the rapidly-developing solar business, traveling, and whatever adventures my wife, Jill, and I come up with. Tuesday, October 30, 2007. You can check that out here. The commentary on that probably describes everything better than a blog post would. Now I might write more, since that we're getting deeper into fall, and it's getting darker and less pleasant out. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). Portland, Oregon, United States.

little grapes: February 2012

http://littlegrapes.blogspot.com/2012_02_01_archive.html

Wednesday, February 22, 2012. As I mentioned in my last post. We finished up our two-week unit study on All Things French by painting some Van Gogh-inspired sunflowers. I have a larger purpose for the white signs I painted them on - I want to add a little personality and beauty to our homestead here. Sunflowers seemed the perfect choice. Then you self-censor every piece and that chance for free creative license and learning in the middle of the moment disappears. Keep it on the paper. Time since Sassy an...

little grapes: gingerbread funschooling

http://littlegrapes.blogspot.com/2011/12/gingerbread-funschooling.html

Monday, December 05, 2011. We're looking at all things gingerbread this week. What's up with that spicy sweet treat that is so fun to decorate? Today we made gingerbread garland. Here's our take on the project. This little short story. About ginger tea will complete today's activities. A generally peaceful, rainy little advent day. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). little grapes: February 2010

http://littlegrapes.blogspot.com/2010_02_01_archive.html

Saturday, February 06, 2010. Maturity and emotional temperance. Love and acceptance instead of bullying and control. Gentleness in my hands. The desire to listen and understand. And a mouth that uses soft voices to speak kind words. It's been a long time since I've put anything here, and I've been in limbo whether or not to keep this blog up. But occasionally, things ask to be recorded in a more private space than Heirloom Homestead. I also can't control others. Assuming that I am choosing to stay in...

little grapes: to my daughters: your calling

http://littlegrapes.blogspot.com/2012/03/to-my-daughters-your-calling.html

Wednesday, March 21, 2012. To my daughters: your calling. Every so often, I think of things that I would like to somehow impart to my daughters. Some life lesson, some been-there-done-that mistake I hope they don't repeat, some realization that I think might help them in their journey from the breathing pulsing beating moving human experience to the other side of eternity. Today I want to tell them about their calling. It doesn't matter what name you have for it: your calling. Even your specific skill set.

little grapes: June 2012

Friday, June 08, 2012. Local libraries with summer reading programs. In my last post. I listed some local businesses that were giving away prizes and rewards in summer reading programs. Here, I wanted to list some of the various libraries around town along with their logging requirements and prizes available. This list is for K-6 readers. Kenton County Public Library - sign up inside a library branch. Log the books you read and after you finish 5 books, return your log for a prize and sign up again.

little grapes: July 2012

http://littlegrapes.blogspot.com/2012_07_01_archive.html

Sunday, July 01, 2012. I don't like fireworks. When I was a child, I remember enjoying some 4th of July fireworks. I especially liked the little snakes you could grow on the sidewalk. And sparklers, of course, because I was allowed to hold them. And these fireworks that made Chinese lanterns because I could then hang them in my room. So, this year, we have different plans for the 4th of July. For years, I've wanted to find other ways to make the day special besides fireworks, and finally, I've gather...

little grapes: gingerbread cookies

http://littlegrapes.blogspot.com/2011/12/gingerbread-cookies.html

Monday, December 12, 2011. We wrapped up our focus on all things gingery this morning when we finally decorated our gingerbread cookies. They were delicious. The recipe I used. Made cookies less in the tangy ginger vein and more in the sweet, spiced cookie vein. They were mild tasting, the dough was easy to work with, and they ended up perfectly crisp - just right for decorating and for dipping in afternoon coffee. It would whisper to me. More on St. Nick as the week progresses. Follow with a Feed.

little grapes: May 2012

http://littlegrapes.blogspot.com/2012_05_01_archive.html

Monday, May 28, 2012. Local reading logs with prizes. Now that I have a young reader (who is rarely found without a new book at hand, actually), all the cool reading logs we have around us are catching my attention. For my local readers - anywhere from Cincinnati to Indianapolis to Louisville - here's my handy-dandy list of summer reading programs and prizes for 2012. If you have a reader like I do, why not grab some prizes for doing what they love anyway? If you have any summer reading programs to add -...

little grapes: a little Christmas joy

http://littlegrapes.blogspot.com/2011/12/little-christmas-joy.html

Monday, December 05, 2011. A little Christmas joy. I am going to out myself here as a total lover of All Things Christmas. I am that person who puts on the Christmas station on Pandora in the middle of October. (Just once! I mean, the weather suddenly turned cold and the ground froze over by the morning, so I pulled on a sweater from the back of the closet and stayed warm listening to "I'll Be Home For Christmas." Can you blame me? It's really not about the buying. It's about the atmosphere. Chri...Every...

little grapes: gingerbread characters

http://littlegrapes.blogspot.com/2011/12/gingerbread-characters.html

Thursday, December 08, 2011. Tuesday, we had a run-run-run kind of day. Miss Sassy had some money she had been saving and she was determined to take it to a little store we like to go to. The store is more or less a Big Lots of food, and it's where we get amazing prices on organic food that is a wee bit. So instead, she purchased a little farm set for $7, and decided to save the rest until she could add to it and go back to get that music box. What a magical music box it must be! Although it might not lo...
