The Mathews Maritime Foundation's Chesapeake Bay Day

Is an annual event held at Thomas Hunter Middle School. This day long interactive program features demonstrations in Mathews' maritime history, shipbuilding, crabbing, oystering, and boating safety. Most of all, it's fun! Activities for sixth graders include knot tying. From the Coast Guard Auxiliary, and hands-on experience with ship-building tools. And a chance to see a variety of marine life. Provided by local watermen. Local organizations share images and stories of the Bay's beauty and conflicts.
