Thursday, April 17, 2008. Selfish Dayak Leaders Blasted. Business bodies became entangled in political wrangling among rival party leaders. Even welfare groups set up to help the needy became stepping stones for certain leaders to engage in politicking. These political aspirants used their position in NGOs to become well known among political circles, to be seen among the VIPs and to rub shoulders with those in power and to garner support for future moves. Democratic Action Party (DAP) assemblyman Voon Lee Shan said politicians and political parties in Sabah and Sarawak should demand for full oil revenue. He disagreed that the demand for oil royalty for the two states be increased to just 20 per cent. Another foreseeable problem will be that by electing councillors to the local authorities, are these so-called rightfully or democratically elected representatives having the tendency to make populist policies despite knowing that such policies may not be beneficial in the long run, all in the name of securing their position? When will these talks end fruitfully?
