Icebox Cakes Cookbook | Pen & Fork

June 8, 2015. By Jean Sagendorph and Jessie Sheehan. Photographs 2015 by Tara Donne. 128 pages $18.95 (or Amazon Hardcover $14.71. One for each recipe. I took a walk down Memory Lane when I saw Icebox Cakes: Recipes for the Coolest Cakes in Town. Come across my desk. I have a vague memory of icebox cakes from early childhood but my recollection is rather beige, i.e., rows of vanilla wafers between layers of vanilla pudding. Hardly a resemblance to what I’ve seen in this book. Match the heat of a summer n...
Sun-Dried Tomato & Goat Cheese Stuffed Zucchini Recipe | Pen & Fork
http://penandfork.com/recipes/crazy-for-zucchini
August 23, 2009. By Gwen Ashley Walters. Something about zucchini drives me crazy. It has nothing to do with the fact that it seems to multiply like crazy. Put a couple of zucchini in the crisper drawer and the next day, you’ve got twice as many as you started with. Or it seems that way. That’s not what makes me cuckoo. What makes me crazy is the. Or, more specifically, lack thereof. Oh, and it’s supremely low in calories and has almost no fat. Huh, I think I just figured out the taste problem. That uses...
Turkey Eggs | Pen & Fork
http://penandfork.com/news-nibbles/turkey-eggs
March 5, 2011. By Gwen Ashley Walters. I knew he was special the first time I interviewed him. He was quiet and humble in that sort of way people who are good at what they do are. He never once bragged about his skills. When I interviewed other chefs about him, well, they bragged plenty about him. But from him? When I dropped off copies of the magazine with his article in it, he pulled out a small cardboard box — one of those recyclable takeout containers. You might also like. This Week in Food Blogs.

Pen & Fork: November 2008
http://penandfork.blogspot.com/2008_11_01_archive.html
Tuesday, November 25, 2008. Tom is taking up a fair amount of space in the fridge. He is the biggest turkey I've ever seen, and my brother informs me we are cooking him on Thursday. I wonder if we really should get started today. How long does it take to cook a 21-pound turkey? Saturday, November 22, 2008. Rosemary Scented Cranberry Sauce. Not that there's anything wrong with cranberry sauce in a can (it will grace our Thanksgiving table as it always has), but sometimes you want something a little more f...
Pen & Fork: Coddling Baby Fennel...
http://penandfork.blogspot.com/2009/05/coddling-baby-fennel.html
Tuesday, May 12, 2009. Don't you just love the name baby fennel? It sounds much more beguiling than just fennel. Baby vegetables are either cultivated to be just babies or, including this baby fennel, are harvested before they reach maturity, so they are miniature versions of the fully matured vegetable. Generally, that means they're not only more tender, but also more delicate in flavor. Fennel is sometimes mistakenly labeled anise, which is a completely different plant from fennel. We're making an oran...

Pen & Fork: February 2009
http://penandfork.blogspot.com/2009_02_01_archive.html
Wednesday, February 25, 2009. Don't eat this at home. Sometimes you want to root for the home girl. Last weekend, we went to the Phoenix farmers market (the one downtown). I'd heard that Chef John Sharpe from La Posada. In Winslow, AZ (yes, same town as the Eagles crooned something about standing on a corner) was going to be at the market with his new cookbook. Dang, he had strep throat and couldn't make it. About their utterly delicious tamales on full display at their booth. Yeah! They're loaded with V...
Pen & Fork: Phoenix Files: 5 Must Try Fries
http://penandfork.blogspot.com/2009/05/phoenix-files-5-must-try-fries.html
Wednesday, May 20, 2009. Phoenix Files: 5 Must Try Fries. Image courtesy Bourbon Steak). French fries never go out of style. But lately, fries have made a resurgence of sorts, appearing on the menus of high dollar steakhouses, quirky neighborhood spots and upscale fast food joints, not to mention gracing the cover of Gourmet. We'd rather have a hot batch of spuds from one of these five - make that six - Phoenix area restaurants. Drum roll, please.). Maybe the presentation has something to do with it, but...
Pen & Fork: How to Cook Swiss Chard
http://penandfork.blogspot.com/2009/05/how-to-cook-swiss-chard.html
Tuesday, May 19, 2009. How to Cook Swiss Chard. I'm standing in line at the grocery store and the cashier starts ringing up my basket. He has to look up every single code on the produce, save bananas. When he picks up the Swiss chard, he says, "what's this? I tell him it's spinach on steroids. A light bulb goes off in his head. And then he asks me what I do with it. Cook it, I say. Oh, he says, followed by how? Next, place them in a bowl and cover with cold water to rinse off any grit. You don't have one?
Pen & Fork: Christopher's Louis Jadot Wine Dinner
http://penandfork.blogspot.com/2009/05/christophers-louis-jadot-wine-dinner.html
Sunday, May 17, 2009. Christopher's Louis Jadot Wine Dinner. This must be wine dinner week in Phoenix. On Tuesday, May 19, just one night before the Binkley's-Duncan Farms dinner and the Autostrada wine dinner. Lounge presents a five course dinner paired with five wines from the famed Louis Jadot winery (and a port from Portugal for dessert). Just for fun, I've put a little glossary together at the end of this post, just in case you run across a word you're not familiar with. A soft, eggy yeast bread.
From my little desk ...: It's Like Riding a Bike
http://stephanieburt.blogspot.com/2012/11/its-like-riding-bike.html
From my little desk . Monday, November 26, 2012. It's Like Riding a Bike. Today I put a thimble in my finger again. It's been more than 10 months since I last sewed, and I wondered, would I ever want to do it again? I didn't pressure myself. I enjoyed the sun, the beach, dinners with friends and late nights in courtyards where the bourbon flowed and friends were easy. But it got cold last week. Not fall cold but winter cold, at least winter for here. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). Blogs that I enjoy.

Pen and Feather
Words from a rusty writer. Saturday, July 11, 2015. You think no one knows you,. But, I looked beneath. Of a very tarnished Knight. You are a bad man. For all the right reasons. You take the actions. No one wants to admit. To save the rest of us. You don't want to care. You won't let us in. But, I see you. This was an homage to the 3 novels written by Ben R Marsten. They are witty fun! The covers were illustrated by the multi-talented Rhissanna Collins. Check out the link below for a great deal! Her word...

A Book of Storms. Is my latest writing project. I’ve been researching biblical scripture for over fifteen years now, so after being disappointed by so many “apocalyptic” books and movies that have little to no biblical merit I decided to write my own. Unlike most writers who take a few snippets from the book of Revelation and then make up a bunch of their own ideas to fill in the blanks,. A Book of Storms. A Book of Storms. Pen and Freedom | It is all about my land
May 15, 2013 · 5:49 am. Freedom – my beloved. I know not what freedom is. For me, an intangible entity it has been. Neither touched, never seen, nor felt it a bit. For me, a tale of sacrifices and tongues slit. Of cries I have heard, of visions blurred. A dawn of gloom, a dusk of doom. A journey of lies and deceit. This cruel life…caged belief. For it happened once, as you ran like a child to me my love. Sobbing, crying, laughing, smiling Continue reading →. May 15, 2013 · 5:40 am. Kunan Posh Pora rape.
