The response from shops and businesses in Penistone, and from stall-holders at Penistone Farmers market has been overwhelmingly positive: nearly every shop in the area is keen to support a reduction in the use of plastic bags. Each shop is doing this in a different way, to suit their own business - some hiding bags out of sight, some re-using supermarket carriers and many displaying the Penistone Carry-A-Bag card or sticker. Penistone Carry-a-Bag Launch Day was held in Penistone Town Centre on Saturday 12th July, 10am-12noon. Our turtle (with help! Handed out raffle tickets to people seen carrying their own bag in Penistone. The winner received a huge box of Fairtrade goods donated by the Co-op. Children enjoyed the quiz, where they had to find out what each shop sold, looking for soft toy creatures in each shop.
