Julias Modelopolis: Reaching for the lasers
http://modelopolis.blogspot.com/2015/06/reaching-for-lasers.html
Sunday, 7 June 2015. Reaching for the lasers. Back from my hols for the time being. I thought it was worthwhile putting anther post together to show you all some of the stuff I have been upto. Firstly on Sunday 31st May I was in Bideford at the North Devon Model Railway Show once again. This time though I took along some of my bits and bobs to show the folk down there. It was a nice little show and the visitors all were nice and friendly. I even made it into the local newspaper there! 7 June 2015 at 20:24.

Sunday, 28 September 2014. CNCing about Part 4. Sometimes you think you have figured something out and then it goes and does something else which leaves you baffled. These were modelled up in Inventor and the G Code was generated. I have decided to make them out of 0.5mm thick plasticard as it means I can glue them easily to each other and the wooden laser cut kit. Its also a bit easier to machine (or so I thought). Strange as the feedrate and the spindle speed haven't changed. Its time to have a rethink.

Julias Modelopolis: Diesel Days (with a bit of steam too)...
http://modelopolis.blogspot.com/2015/07/diesel-days-with-bit-of-steam-too.html
Friday, 24 July 2015. Diesel Days (with a bit of steam too). Since my last post I haven't been totally idle modelling wise although a few ' issues. Its a good feeling to know that once they have some decoders fitted there are two more usable engines, even more so there are two less engines on my ever increasing pile of ' to convert. Finally I must say a really BIG thanks once again to Steve T who has again done an absolute brilliant job with the weathering, the pictures do not do them justice. Ive seen t...

Julias Modelopolis: October 2012
http://modelopolis.blogspot.com/2012_10_01_archive.html
Sunday, 21 October 2012. I have decided to take a bit of a break from the layout. It was getting a bit frustrating and I wasnt doing as good a job with it as I could, that plus the fact I had to remind myself that its a hobby after all and it should be enjoyable! Refreshed with this in my head I have turned once again to my favorite side of the hobby which is designing and building engines. The latest one on my workbench right now is a little 0-4-0 Peckett saddle tank engine. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom).

Julias Modelopolis: January 2015
http://modelopolis.blogspot.com/2015_01_01_archive.html
Saturday, 31 January 2015. I thought I would put a blog together for a couple of reasons. The first is a question if its ok? As you can see, I have attacked the lineside shed with the weathering powders and things to try and dirty it up a bit and hopefully make it a little more realistic which I have hopefully achieved. The problem now is the signal box looks a little bit too clean in comparison so my question is what do I do now? Sunday, 25 January 2015. I also was struggling to find any static grass or...

Julias Modelopolis: March 2015
http://modelopolis.blogspot.com/2015_03_01_archive.html
Sunday, 29 March 2015. This weekend has been crammed full of railway modelling bits and bobs so I am feeling a little inspired right now. Firstly on the Saturday I was fortunate to attend the London Festival of Railway modelling at Alexander Palace on behalf of the 2mm Scale Association to do a demo at the show. The food to me wasnt quite upto previous times so I had to liven it up a bit. It tasted really nice though. Alex's Janus Engine. Simply superb modelling. So overall I enjoyed myself this weekend ...

Sunday, 19 October 2014. Aiming for some Atmosphere Part 3. I have had one of those weekends. You know the ones where you spend virtually the entire weekend sitting around pondering things, doing household chores, and generally avoiding the modelling bench. All until Sunday afternoon when you try and cram everything you wanted to get done into a short time before the weekly grind of work comes around. Sometimes things work out, fortunately it feels things worked out for me. Sunday, 12 October 2014. I thi...

Julias Modelopolis: Painting Pigeons
http://modelopolis.blogspot.com/2015/07/painting-pigeons.html
Saturday, 4 July 2015. A while ago now when I was putting an order into Shapeways for some of my 3D printed parts I came across these. As per normal I thought to myself "those look good, I am sure I can use them somewhere" and so promptly added them to my shopping cart. They looks much better but then I thought I couldnt just stick some plain Grey birdies onto the layout so I got my paintbrushes out to add a little bit of colour to them (or some of them). 4 July 2015 at 14:13. 4 July 2015 at 23:23. 5 Jul...

Sunday, 30 September 2012. Gears - A Useful Tip. Recently I have been working on a couple of bogies for my diesel railcar. The chassis is based upon bits from a TOMIX chassis, unfortunately I have been having some problems getting them to run reliably after converting the wheels to 2mm finescale standards. Below are a couple of photos showing the conversion. How to Work Out What Gears Were Used. The wheel axle gears 1 and 5 where identical. The idler gears 2 and 4 were also identical. Therefore:. Firstly...
