Encryption

All firmware files for K20D and GX20 are encrypted. Below you'll find information about used encryption. As you know Canon 5D Mark II hacking is based on firmware dump. But we managed to decrypt firmware and also discovered how to dump any firmware. Some known information about encryption. Used encryption is not very advanced, not DES or AES :-). Based on statistical analysis I found that it uses dynamic 256 byte key. Encrypted part starts at 0x100. Encrypted file (GX20 firmware v1.01):.

Early K10D firmware hack attempt. I took some information from this abandoned project. Firmware hack thread by Rule 34 on DPReview forums. Contains some extra information, but not much. Most information on links in this thread is not available anymore. You could use DLL inside this program to control many parameters of camera and, possibly, dump firmware. Software for tethered shooting using Pentax DSLRs, providing the functions from Pentax Remote Assistant to Linux users. C) 2009 Pentax Hacking Community.

Anfang Juni 2009 wurde mir von der Firma PENTAX als einer von 10 Testfotografen ein Vorserienmodell der Pentax K-7 zur Verfügung gestellt. Diese digitale Spiegelreflexkamera ist vollkommen gegen Staub und Wasser abgedichtet und daher für den Einsatz in Höhlen bestens geeignet.
