Peppercorn Minis: February 2011
http://peppercornminis.blogspot.com/2011_02_01_archive.html
12th scale miniatures by Glenda Howell. Wednesday, February 16, 2011. I've been trying to find a way of simulating old items made of horn (medieval windows, lanterns - 'lant-horns' - , viking drinking horns for quaffing ale, hunting horns, spoons, bowls, etc). In medieval times the outside sheath of cow horn was used just like we use plastic today - it could be cut, heated and shaped, and was waterproof and semi-transparent. I'll have to try this last bit . . . Anyway, to the point - the company which ma...
Peppercorn Minis: Making haste slowly
http://peppercornminis.blogspot.com/2011/07/making-haste-slowly.html
12th scale miniatures by Glenda Howell. Tuesday, July 5, 2011. I've spent two days trying to make a quarter scale cauldron. Do not try this at home. Having come to the point of whimpering 'life's too short for this . . .' I got out some 1:48 kits and relaxed by putting this furniture together. They're next to a 1:12 scale chair :) It's surprising how quickly you get used to working with smaller scale - it was a real shock to hold the huge 1:12 chair, lol. The gothic chair is from Karen Cary's Miniatures.
Peppercorn Minis: January 2011
http://peppercornminis.blogspot.com/2011_01_01_archive.html
12th scale miniatures by Glenda Howell. Saturday, January 29, 2011. Greetings, and welcome to the tower! The resident enchanter (he's shy about his name) is here to show you - his respected visitors - through his modest dwelling. He hasn't yet noticed the book which he was searching for earlier - it was left out in the rain after his twilight walk last night searching for herbs! He's not going to be happy about that . . . He asks your patience while he completes a small task at his desk. It is from mammo...
Peppercorn Minis: December 2010
http://peppercornminis.blogspot.com/2010_12_01_archive.html
12th scale miniatures by Glenda Howell. Monday, December 20, 2010. I'd like to wish all of my family, friends and followers a happy solstice! This lovely time of year is a time of renewal, joy, promise of blessings to come, family gatherings, forgiveness and fun! Whatever your beliefs, I wish you well, and hope that the coming year is everything you desire! As a small gift to you I'm going to tell the story of this beautiful church window, as best as I can remember it. The windows, the rich dark wood of ...
Peppercorn Minis: September 2011
http://peppercornminis.blogspot.com/2011_09_01_archive.html
12th scale miniatures by Glenda Howell. Wednesday, September 28, 2011. Hello, everyone - sorry about the long silence. I've had a rough winter of ill health and an old problem of fatigue has re-appeared :(. I haven't done anything on my little weaver's house for ages, but the spring weather's working its magic, and I'm looking forward to starting on it again. Thanks to those who have contacted me about being absent - it's good to have friends around the world! Best wishes to you all! Click on the pic.

A (Miniature) Room of One's Own. Chronicles the re-creation in miniature of the writing rooms and studios of modernist women writers. And other things as I go along. Sunday, November 25, 2012. Ever since I began this project I have been searching for an appropriate upholstery fabric for Gertrude's chair as seen in this picture:. So far I think it looks fabulous. I'm still working out in my head how to get the drapey feel of a slipcover. I'll post again once Its finished. Posted by modernist molly. Photo ...

A (Miniature) Room of One's Own. Chronicles the re-creation in miniature of the writing rooms and studios of modernist women writers. And other things as I go along. Wednesday, December 5, 2012. Wouldn't you know it! As part of my obsessive-compulsive behaviour I was cruising antique fabric websites the other day, just idly looking for likely fabrics for Gertrude's chair slipcover. I cam across a number of sellers of french antique fabrics, including French-treasures.com. Undoubtedly someon out there does.

A (Miniature) Room of One's Own. Chronicles the re-creation in miniature of the writing rooms and studios of modernist women writers. And other things as I go along. Thursday, December 30, 2010. First attempt at upholstering in 1:12. I did attempt to make the footstool to go with the slip-covered armchair, but it turned out looking like a mob-cap. Lesson: pleat, don't gather, tiny bits of cloth. Back to the drawing board on that one. Posted by modernist molly. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). Stein an...

A room of two's own; a room of two zone. Long time between posts partly because I've been trying to figure out a way to upload gadgets from the ipad. Haven't cracked it so am on the pc. One of the few drawbacks of the ipad. That and the lack of Flash. Posted by modernist molly. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom).

Sunday, 9 May 2010. A shiny floor and new table. Here is the promised photo of the 'polished' tudor floor lol. I've been informed that Tudors wouldn't have polished their floors but I do think it looks so much better now, and the tudors in my kitchen liked clean floors ;). I've started furnishing my kitchen by building a trestle table. I followed the instructions here. I made these items a while ago, but couldn't resist putting them 0n the table to see how they looked -. Puno/Monika from PuNo's Minis 1/12.

Peppercorn Knits
Friday, October 26, 2012. Martina Behm's Leftie is a very enjoyable knit! However . . . I didn't like the idea of weaving in all those ends from the Stripe and Leaf segments, so here's a way of carrying the contrast colour up the side, without having long loose loops. This method creates contrast-colour mini-bobbles near the edge. MC = main colour. CC = contrast colour - Stripe and Leaf. Swap the yarn positions forward or back as necessary. I didn't twist them together. Wednesday, August 8, 2012. The dou...
