Progress in Earth and Planetary Science. 一年すこし前まで文科省の学術調査官を兼務していました。この職名には得も言われぬ響きがあるようで、肩書入りの名刺を渡し、相手の反応を見て楽しんでいる同僚もいたようです。といっても、仕事の大部分は、文科省が直轄する数少ない科研費種目である新学術領域研究の審査作業の補助、要すれば事務方側のサポートをするというものです。特に研究代表者に返す審査意見書、論文でいえばレビューコメントは、専門性に通じていないと書けません。ヒアリングや審議を傍聴し、委員の書いた（時に難読の）メモを参照して意見書の原案を作るのが、多くの学術分野から集まった調査官の仕事です。時々誤解のある点ですが、調査官自身が申請書の評価に加わることは全くありません。 PEPS 宇宙惑星科学セクション編集長 / 北海道大学大学院 理学院 宇宙理学専攻 倉本 圭.
