Perfectly Polished

Monday, August 15, 2016. Happy Lemon Meringue Pie Day! Once that perfect feeling of equal parts contentment and drowsiness hits, place your utensils in finished position. In Continental dining, tines are placed down at four and twenty (imagine your plate as a clock face). If you ate your meal using the American style of dining, tines may face up at four and twenty. Now that you know the proper way to eat pie, save it for another day and stuff your face with a slice of lemon meringue! Friday, July 1, 2016.

Your first day at training is very similar to the first day at a new school except better because you want to be there, there are no cliques to conquer, and your lunch doesn't involve fish sticks in an overcrowded cafeteria! You're getting your new books, meeting your teachers, and getting acquainted with the basics you'll need in your tool box to be successful in your courses.

Learning with Lachlan: August 2011

http://learningwithlachlan.blogspot.com/2011_08_01_archive.html

Wednesday, August 31, 2011. Somewhere Over the Rainbow. There is something about a rainbow that catches the eye of every child- and adult, too! Most obvious would be it's beautiful colours, but then there is a magical mystical side of the rainbow; wondering if you could ever find the end of it and would there be a pot o' gold? He actually asked me to take a picture of him in front of the rainbow. It didn't come out too well, but him posing for the camera for his special shot is priceless. Well yesterday ...

Learning with Lachlan: July 2011

http://learningwithlachlan.blogspot.com/2011_07_01_archive.html

Sunday, July 31, 2011. For this exploration, you need a light box or you can make on yourself if you have an old table, a light and some opaque perspex. The media for this is endless, but your goal is to find things that are translucent/transparent. A must is the primary colors: yellow, red, blue. Then add in whatever fun objects you find of varying colours. Here is a peek into our material box:. Once everything is gathered, let your child go to it! So this was all just a nice preliminary intro to our li...

Learning with Lachlan: November 2010

http://learningwithlachlan.blogspot.com/2010_11_01_archive.html

Tuesday, November 23, 2010. The Not-So Incy, Wincy Spider. In Australia, the 'incy wincy' spider does not crawl up the water spout. When I think of our Australian spiders, 'incy wincy' just doesn't come to mind. I also think it will take a heck of a lot more than some rain to 'wash the spider out.' Nothing about these spiders are small. They are often big, hairy and sometimes jumpy and the end all for me (as if hairy wasn't enough! That is a bird! There's a bird in the web! I don't know what kind of spid...

http://learningwithlachlan.blogspot.com/2012/01/saying-good-bye-one-journey-ends.html

Saturday, January 7, 2012. Saying Good-bye: one journey ends, another begins. Remember to always find joy in the simple things. We have been busy, but the honest truth is I haven't been any busier than usual. Our wee one is a dream baby and she and Lachlan nap at the same time for the most part so I actually have quite a bit of time to get things done around the house and I could blog to my heart's content for at least a couple of hours. How lucky am I? Being respectful doesn't mean you tolerate negative...

Learning with Lachlan: A Spring Walk

http://learningwithlachlan.blogspot.com/2011/09/spring-walk.html

Thursday, September 1, 2011. Some firsts of spring. Today is the first day of September, the first month of spring! We have been waiting and waiting for its arrival. We welcome the warm rays of the sun kissing our face. When I stepped out the door this morning, I told Lach I was going to check the weather to see if it was going to rain. He followed behind me in his pajamas and said, "Nope! And it has been so far. We finished our fun by going down the slide, well I WENT down the slide. Lachlan decided...

Learning with Lachlan: August 2010

http://learningwithlachlan.blogspot.com/2010_08_01_archive.html

Tuesday, August 31, 2010. Why can't a child decide what colour to paint the wind chime or what creature he wants to make his sock puppet. Who cares if the chime doesn't sound lovely to us if it sounds lovely to the child? So what if the eyes of a sock puppet are where the ears should be if the child can say in the end, "I made this myself! Now I'm telling MYSELF to 'Let it Be! Because I want to say, "Are you crazy? Learning with Lachlan: Father's Day 2011

http://learningwithlachlan.blogspot.com/2011/09/fathers-day-2011.html

Sunday, September 4, 2011. Today is Father's Day in the good ol' land of Oz! The rest of the day we spent at the city zoo. It was very fitting as many of the animals have just given birth to their own little babies and you could see some of the males watching over their young with pride; especially the meercats, where there were two young pups. Now we're back home and both kids are zonked out after a long outing. The house is very quiet and still, probably the best Father's Day gift to hubby of all!

Learning with Lachlan: A Little Old School Noodling...

http://learningwithlachlan.blogspot.com/2011/09/little-old-school-noodling.html

Monday, September 5, 2011. A Little Old School Noodling. So tomorrow I am rostered to bring the craft to our Tuesday playgroup. I was assigned to dye noodles and cut straws into segments for the purpose of making necklaces. Yes, it is a very traditional craft. How many parents have not had some sort of noodle artwork hung on their refrigerator or around their neck? It may be a little bit old school but this activity is great for fine motor development. So nooodle art isn't just, "the same old noodle art!

My scribbles about nails and nail art and venturing into the rest of the beauty world. Thursday, 13 March 2014. I received this eyeliner in my February Birchbox which I wrote about here. This was a miniature but I think it's just a perfects size for my make-up bag. The packaging is simple - silver with black text - but I quite like that about it. I am not normally a huge fan of eyeliner and have never been able to perfect the feline flicks I see and like on so many other people! Have you tried this liner?
