The “I Like” Page. Raising a Person with Autism. Month: March, 2014. March 26, 2014. Two Years After Diagnosis: The Gifts of Autism. You learn to relate to other people better and have a stronger sense of empathy. I feel like I am better able to “meet people where they are”. I am more patient with people who are slow at the checkout line, act differently than me, or seem rude or disconnected. I am just generally more accepting of others. No worries, another hour is right around the corner. I no longe...

Has it Really Been a Year Already?: A Not-So-Quick-Recap on the Last Year | Perfectly Quirky

https://perfectlyquirky.wordpress.com/2012/12/20/has-it-really-been-a-year-already-a-not-so-quick-recap-on-the-last-year

The “I Like” Page. Raising a Person with Autism. Has it Really Been a Year Already? A Not-So-Quick-Recap on the Last Year. Boy were we wrong. We were watching our happy, bubbly little boy just disappear before our eyes. It was like every day a little more of him was slipping away and we had no idea where he was going. I was fearful that soon, he would just be a shell of a boy- a body- with him so deep down in there we would never reach him. Heartbreaking is an understatement. Denial is a crazy thing.

Ho Ho Ho: An Autistic Christmas | Perfectly Quirky

https://perfectlyquirky.wordpress.com/2012/12/29/ho-ho-ho-an-autistic-christmas

The “I Like” Page. Raising a Person with Autism. Ho Ho Ho: An Autistic Christmas. We lost him for the rest of the day. Once again, we were left mildly disappointed with S’s mostly indifferent, and almost negative, reaction to Christmas. When was our child going to become excited about Santa and gifts and new toys? Did he even notice all of that cool stuff that Santa brought? Over the next few days, S initiated play with many of his new toys and we have had many hours of fun playing together. 8230;] this ...

Potty Training and Autism | Perfectly Quirky

https://perfectlyquirky.wordpress.com/2013/04/16/potty-training-and-autism

The “I Like” Page. Raising a Person with Autism. Potty Training and Autism. S has a hard time with transitions and new types of clothing. He has been scared of underwear for a while, so I knew that I had to take this delicately. I knew that just taking away diapers and giving him underwear was not going to work and I knew that we had to do away with diapers right away. There would be no ‘sometimes with diapers and sometimes not’ with him. Books on potty training. Seat ring for big potty. I am very proud ...

Full Moon and Autism: Is There a Connection? | Perfectly Quirky

https://perfectlyquirky.wordpress.com/2013/03/29/full-moon-and-autism

The “I Like” Page. Raising a Person with Autism. Full Moon and Autism: Is There a Connection? Now, I don’t want to sound a little crazy, but I am really starting to wonder if the moon cycle plays a role in my son’s all around behavior and ability to function at his best. Sometime last summer, when S’s new teacher started, I remember complaining about S having a rough few days. Her reply? S wasn’t the only one with an off day. Once things settled, I jokingly asked “is it a full moon? 8221; to which the en...

Brad, Shawna, & Aria

Brad, Shawna, and Aria. Friday, March 16, 2012. I'm so grateful that Heavenly Father created different seasons. And that we get to experience all of them(if only for a short while this winter) here in Arkansas. Spring weather has come so early this year, but I love it! The daffodils started blooming in January. I couldn't believe it. We had a fun day, filled with the beauties of nature. How grateful I am for all that we have to enjoy. Sometimes we just need to take time to look around and really ...It's ...

Tuesday, 4 February 2014. The Kids Are Alright (Its The Others). Lately I have been horrible at keeping up with this, for a variety of reasons. Well there was the my son started to get sick, I started a home business and lastly, I forgot. Im human, I meant well, but evening came, Sons of Anarchy (Jax Teller) took over my life, and the rest is history. I find I write when my life is at the most stressful, when I feel like I am limited to who I can turn to. Now that, I cannot understand. All in the name of...

Will you remember me?

Will you remember me? The days where you don’t even get yourself. On: October 12, 2009. I’m going through some really strange internal metamorphosis right now… as the days pass i feel bits and pieces of me dying. I don’t get what’s happening, or whether there will be resurrection following this, but it feels rather strange adn disconcerting, because try as i might, i can’t control this at all. Even i don’t quite understand what’s happening to me right now. Imagine that. On: October 11, 2009. Right Let go...
