Water Lily #4 creativity is a lot of work. August 11, 2015. August 11, 2015. I learned a lot with this painting, such as it’s okay not to try for every detail and yes you can wear a hole through your paper. I wonder if, when God created the world, he said there’s more that I could do but… meh. There’s definitely more I could do (and less in some spots), but… meh. October 30, 2016. October 31, 2016. Guarding the roost 11×12 abstract wc on Strathmore 140 lb cold pressed. I bought my first bamboo brush last week and wanted to get a feel for doing something more abstract. So, inspired by several other watercolour artists, I worked loosely over an old wc-pencil drawing of a dish by wetting specific areas of colour using long sweeping strokes. Water Lily #3 Losing the Highlights. August 6, 2015. August 7, 2015. From this point on I’m in danger of losing the highlights. A little rework with the application of some lemon yellow may bring them back. Or, perhaps once I get into the darkest darks I will find them again, fingers crossed. It’s tempting now to just race to the finish. But painting is a moving meditation like yoga or tai chi. It needs to be approached deliberately and with patience. Moon Aug 1 2015.
