Urban Permaculture: Bokashi Composting
http://urban-permaculture.blogspot.com/2008/06/bokashi-composting.html
Monday, June 9, 2008. Bokashi (Japanese for "fermented organic matter") is a method of intensive composting. It can use an aerobic or anaerobic inoculation to produce the compost. Once a starter culture is made, it can be re-used, like yogurt culture. Since the popular introduction of effective microorganisms (EM), Bokashi is commonly made with only molasses, water, EM, and wheat bran. However, Bokashi can be made by inoculating any organic matter with a variety of hosts of beneficial bacteria/microbes.

Urban Permaculture: 100 Mile Diet: Local Eating for Global Change
http://urban-permaculture.blogspot.com/2008/12/100-mile-diet-local-eating-for-global.html
Monday, December 1, 2008. 100 Mile Diet: Local Eating for Global Change. There is some logic in eating only food that's locally raised and produced in a radius of 100 Mile. Of course, in a heavy urbanized setting you'll have to be creative! In 2005, Alisa Smith and J.B. MacKinnon began a one-year experiment in local eating. Their 100-Mile Diet struck a deeper chord than anyone could have predicted, inspiring thousands of individuals, and even whole communities, to change the way they eat. Masanobu Fukuok...

Urban Permaculture: HOME project
http://urban-permaculture.blogspot.com/2009/06/home-project.html
Wednesday, June 24, 2009. There still time to serve and protect Gaia! HOME is an ode to the planet's beauty and its delicate harmony. Through the landscapes of 54 countries captured from above, Yann Arthus-Bertrand takes us on an unique journey all around the planet, to contemplate it and to understand it. But HOME is more than a documentary with a message, it is a magnificent movie in its own right. Every breathtaking shot shows the Earth - our Earth - as we have never seen it before. There is some logi...

Urban Permaculture
http://urban-permaculture.blogspot.com/2009/06/image-is-circus-performer-twirling.html
Friday, June 26, 2009. The image is the circus performer twirling plates on sticks, except in the circus those plates are sometimes attached to the sticks and their precarious balance is an illusion. Sometimes, though, the plates are really being balanced on the ends of the sticks. Do you ever feel like you're watching a bad movie about the collapse of civilization, while doing your best to hold visions of viability and creative possibility? Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). mocha mom: what's in your jar?
http://onejaratatime.blogspot.com/2008/09/whats-in-your-jar.html
Saving the world one jar at a time. Saturday, September 20, 2008. What's in your jar? Have I mentioned (100 times) how much I love living in oregon? I love living in this place where it is fully acceptable to be drinking out of jars. It's almost a requirement even. Imagine my excitement when I see a friend walk in drinking out of a garlic jar. Yes, I had to run and get my camera! My other friend was using a kombucha bottle, and I had a wine bottle. but we were all drinking the same thing. hmmmm.

mocha mom: My new project
http://onejaratatime.blogspot.com/2010/04/my-new-project.html
Saving the world one jar at a time. Thursday, April 8, 2010. Although I have not written about my jar in a long time, I am still obsessed. I still use my jar everyday for my drinks. I use jars even more than ever. It's still cool that lots of people use jars up here. So many people use jars for drinks, there is actually a market for jar holders. My friends and fellow RRAT members make jar packers-which I will have to highlight in another blog.next time-. Any ideas on cool names?
