perplexitea: Phoenix Bird Oolong
http://perplexitea.blogspot.com/2007/08/phoenix-bird-oolong.html
Where nature, science and philosophy meet mind, body and soul. Wednesday, August 15, 2007. Today I bought some Phoenix Bird Oolong tea from Silk Road Teas. In Chinese, this tea is called "Feng Huang Dan Cong", or 凤凰单 丛 in Simplified Chinese, and fèng huáng dān cóng in Pinyin. fèng huáng means legendary phoenix, a mythological bird that is not related to the Egyptian myth. According to wikipedia. The dry leaves are twisted lengthwise,. First, a 5 second rinse. First brewing, 15 seconds. The liquor is a li...
perplexitea: Tea Gum?
http://perplexitea.blogspot.com/2007/08/tea-gum.html
Where nature, science and philosophy meet mind, body and soul. Sunday, August 19, 2007. When I was in the grocery store today, I saw Tearrow. S sugarless tea gum for sale, with "Natural Tea Flavor" and all. Five sticks of gum for 99 cents, heck you can't get anything for 99 cents anymore, so I bought 'em- and at about the same price as a cup of home brewed tea. Much more of a honey taste. Although, I can't really taste any tea at all. What store did you find them in? August 23, 2007 at 11:38 AM. Subscrib...

We have each received about 25g of two teas (although looks like a lot more to me! Along with instructions for how to brew them to their utmost capacity. Here is the first review. After infusion, the leaves are gree...

Where nature, science and philosophy meet mind, body and soul. Monday, August 27, 2007. Tea Lore and Legends. I am currently reading "The Chinese Art of Tea" by John Blofeld, and thought I would share some excerpts on the ancient lore that surrounds our beloved plant. On Tie Kuan Yin (Iron Goddess of Mercy) tea:. When the merchants who bought the first crop asked the name of the tea, he said: 'We must call it Kuan-Yin tea.' 'On account of the iron statue of Kuan-Yin in that old temple? Links to this post.

Tea Sites & Blogs. Archive for November, 2007. What a Spankin’ Good Idea! My friend Ido, who runs the blog Divine Tastes. Recently brought a great website to my attention. It’s called FreeRice.com. And it has one of the most novel and noble concepts around. You simply answer vocabulary questions. For each one you get right, you ‘earn’ 10 grains of rice. The rice you earn is then used to feed the world’s hungry. November 18, 2007 at 1:24 pm. Updates and New Toys! November 1, 2007 at 7:04 pm. Subjective ra...

Tea Sites & Blogs. At Long Last…The Perfect Scone! October 25, 2007 at 11:41 pm. I cook. I cook a lot. I make almost everything completely from scratch, and it’s almost always excellent. There are, however, some things that I hate to make and avoid like the plague. One of them is the scone. 1 cups all-purpose flour. 2 tsp baking powder. 5 Tbs butter (pref. unsalted). Cup optional ‘add ins’. Egg wash: 1 egg dash of water/milk. Preheat the oven to 400ºF. In a large bowl (in my case, my Kitchen Aid mixer...

Tea Sites & Blogs. It’s the End of the World as We Know It…. And I don’t feel so fine. I’m amazed it really hasn’t come up yet here…but I loathe bottled water. Seriously, if you live in America, Canada, or most of Europe, there’s really not much to fear from your water ( brain-eating amoebas notwithstanding. I really can vent for hours on the subject, but I’ll spare you and just say that buying bottled water is one of the more environmentally irresponsible things a normal person can do. I can offer no de...

Tea Sites & Blogs. Review: Tradewind’s Unsweet Tea. October 13, 2007 at 8:23 am. 8220;Bottle, Bottle, Bottle, Bottle.”. Three years. I spent three years chanting this phrase after my best friend and erstwhile roommate. She’s a fantastic person, but has no housekeeping skills whatsoever (bless her heart). This meant that every time I went to her room/her fridge space/her car/her closet/her bookbag, I had to battle her miniature army of half-finished drink bottles. It’s the End of the World as We Kno...

Tea Sites & Blogs. Review: Revolution Citrus Spice Herbal Tea. October 19, 2007 at 8:59 am. Not long ago, a representative from Revolution Tea. You already know that I won’t look kindly on a product just because someone gave it to me. So this brings me to the easy-brew tea. Revolution’s Citrus Spice Herbal Tea. Being a blend of rooibos, lemongrass, lemon peel, orange peel, cloves and cinnamon, I thought it might be a worthy contender for the Rishi Jamaica Red Bush. I liked so I brewed them side by side.

Perhaps a 2.5, shall we say? 61 g brewed in a 5 oz gaiwan. 1 rinse. Boiling water for all infusions. 10s, 15, 20s. All in all, it was eminently forgettable.
