Friday, September 19, 2008. John William Jackson, A Friend to the Indians. The family first lived in Moroni, then in Nephi, where their home was in the southwest corner of the old fort. From Moroni the family moved to Payson where they lived for a number of years. While in Payson, he chose Sarah Ellenor Bingham to be his wife. They were married in the Endowment House in Salt Lake City on August 4, 1870. John William Jackson died April 1, 1928 in Lyman, Wayne County, Utah. Thursday, September 18, 2008.

Silas, Elizabeth and their family settled in Union Fort where he became the first Bishop to organize a ward for the Mormon Church. He helped build the fort for protection against Indians. He was also called to assist in settling up the Dixie country, which he did by establishing ware houses in St. George, putting out trees and starting a vineyard, assisting the people by giving employment to many.
