January 10, 2017. October 16, 2016. I am writing hunched over in the shadows. Sleeping babes next to me. The moon is a spotlight, dazzling, radiant, outside my window. I notice the moon, I pay attention to it. It's light in the darkness. One of my three-year-olds says, "Mom! The circle moon is back! I see it. It sees me.". I have a new son. He is smart, tender, funny, sweet. When he cries, it fills me with fear. I try not to be afraid of his grief. Sometimes I am grumpy and tense and not gentle at all.

September 16, 2011. Because I still can't believe he's mine. Because I'm thankful for his friendship these past eleven years. Because he had my heart the first time he pushed me down in the snow. The first time I heard him call his mother. The first time he met my family and was left for dead with all my brothers and sisters. The first time he laid those stolen tulips on my parent's doorstep when I had cold feet. Fiercely in love with his children. Makes his wife feel like a supermodel. Just like we are.

October 26, 2010. 8212; Dietrich Bonhoeffer. I was reading about Dietrich Bonhoeffer. Last night. My mom would be ashamed to know I hadn't really. Heard of him. I knew he was someone special. I just had never read about his life. She's fascinated by men and women of character and faith; knowing and retelling their stories. Weird. What an AMAZING man of God. I was so sad to think about what he went through during his life. And SO amazed at the things he accomplished.before he was hung. It fired me up.
