Pete's JDM POLEMICS

Wednesday, 13 January 2010. Decisions and basic instincts. As I was going through all the articles and book chapters on the subject of 'decisions from experience' I found out that although it was very interesting to investigate this material, there seemed to be a subject-related area that was not discussed in those papers. The fact is that I was hoping to read something ‘much more risky’ than flipping coin experiments when I first saw the article by. Hertwig et al (2004). Another aspect concerns our inte...

Pete's JDM POLEMICS: 'Let me reframe the statement. You will feel better, I promise.'

http://www.petejdm.blogspot.com/2009/11/let-me-reframe-statement-you-will-feel.html

Monday, 9 November 2009. Let me reframe the statement. You will feel better, I promise.'. The framing effect is a very interesting subject. As I forgot to ask two questions during our last session, I will try to discuss them in this post. The first one is concerned with justifying statements and the second one with leading questions. 1 The swine flu is a great danger. 2 Where was he standing when he shot her? Maule, J., and Villejoubert, G. (2007). What lies beneath: Reframing framing effects. Hi Piotr, ...

http://www.petejdm.blogspot.com/2009/11/i-dont-know-why-but-i-must-be-right.html

Wednesday, 4 November 2009. 8216;I don’t know why, but I must be right.’. Case 2: Order and vision. This post may be a little bit abstract sometimes (hopefully not as trying to answer incomplete questions such as: Is it better for women to wear pink tops rather than high-heel shoes? But will possibly give you a new perspective to think from. Buss, D. (2006) "The Murderer Next Door: Why the Mind Is Designed to Kill". Decision Making, 14, 141-168. 5 November 2009 at 04:26. Pete's JDM POLEMICS: Measuring utility functions.

http://www.petejdm.blogspot.com/2009/11/measuring-utility-functions.html

Thursday, 5 November 2009. It seems my graphs look similar until they reach the approximate x=500; y=0.85 point on the probability graph. It seems to me that while analysing the task on probability, I presented more distance in terms of 'showing a potential gambler's nature'. The higher the amount - the more certainty I expected to have. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). A/H1N1, the media and the framing effect. Let me reframe the statement. You will feel bette. Look in the toilet, Watson!: Wait, I have one more request!

http://lookinthetoiletwatson.blogspot.com/2009/12/wait-i-have-one-more-request.html

Look in the toilet, Watson! Monday, 7 December 2009. Wait, I have one more request! Please bring my group for J&DM back to life! From the 4 original members, 2 of them have gone AWOL, and unless the other two surviving members (HI SUZANNE, and myself) do some DOUBLE EXTRA WORK, we are FUBAR pretty much yes. I love how FUBAR is accepted, but some people would be disappointed if I said "fucked up beyond all repair". Woops! Posted by Oscar Riba. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). Look in the toilet, Watson!: Week 5 (6th November post): Decision framing

http://lookinthetoiletwatson.blogspot.com/2009/12/week-5-6th-november-post-decision.html

Look in the toilet, Watson! Friday, 4 December 2009. Week 5 (6th November post): Decision framing. Just a quick note on this week: Since it is the week in which we based our first assessment, I thought that instead of posting a review here, you could just read the coursework wiki. Which works as well, and saves me from dying in the attempt! Posted by Oscar Riba. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). Judgment and Decision Making Reflective Report (Aminta Seidi). Look in the toilet, Watson!: 01-Nov-2009

http://lookinthetoiletwatson.blogspot.com/2009_11_01_archive.html

Look in the toilet, Watson! Monday, 2 November 2009. How useful it is to measure utility! After having spent at least 40 attempts to recreate the graphs from David Hardman's post. I finally made it! As you can read, the first one is for Certainty equivalence, and the second one for Probability equivalence. Reading the graphs themselves, you can see that I'm not really a gambler, prefering more than 50% of what I can win before I settle down for the cash prize (I'd rather take £600 than being able to...

http://lookinthetoiletwatson.blogspot.com/2009/12/reading-week-random-topic-week.html

Look in the toilet, Watson! Friday, 4 December 2009. Reading week (random topic week! Someone mentioned in the revision week the fact that judgment and decision making studies are always based on the same topics:. Money (that's what I want). MORTAL ASIAN DISEASES (caps locks for effect), in which two sets of population perfectly opposite and equivalent, but presented in a different way (saving lives vs killing them), are genocided multiple times. They could have given. Why I spend my money fixing a bike ...

Look in the toilet, Watson! Sunday, 11 October 2009. Psychology., and zombies. I was watching last night this joyful program called Dead Set. Which basically consists of "Big Brother" meets "zombies", when I decided to write this small note. What else can you find which is so fun, gory, and, at the same time, illustrative of how human psychology works? Which even has an entry on the wikipedia! Serve as catalyst for us to start murdering each other. Plenty of zombie movies show that: 28 days later shows h...

IPhone and Rhythmbox tips. December 9, 2010. I have now been syncing my iPhone exclusively using Rhythmbox since April this year, and I thought it was about time I blogged about my experiences. I am currently using Ubuntu 10.10 (Maverick) with Rhythmbox 0.13.1, and my iPhone is a 16GB 3GS running iOS 4.1 (8B117). These are my tips:. Launch Rhythmbox before connecting your iPhone. If you fail to do this then your iPhone will be mounted, Rhythmbox will launch and subsequently unmount your phone. Deleting f...
