The lighter side of Italy →. April 22, 2013. Back in Rome we were treated to a superb final evening of Italian entertainment, with a great multi course banquet interspersed with classic musical items performed by a pianist and two opera singers. It was a beautiful way to cap off a tour that from beginning to end has been satisfying in so many ways. We have a couple of days in Rome to ourselves, then off to Greece for ten days. A whole new language to learn! This entry was posted in Uncategorized.

Venice: 25 years in style! Southern views →. April 20, 2013. From Venice we travelled to Assisi where we stayed a night. That meant passing through the town of Padua, famous for being the birthplace of renowned scientist Galileo. It’s also famous for (we think) the oldest coffee shop in Italy. Its flagship brew was a double shot espresso with mint flavoured cream. The cream was stunningly good; the coffee was – whoooaaa! Next stop Sorrento, Capri and Pompeii…. It’s Greek to me! The lighter side of Italy. April 23, 2013. Since our guided tour finished we’ve been to St Peter’s basilica and the Catacombs by ourselves. We talk about those trips below, but first we thought you might appreciate a few stories showing the lighter side of our time in Italy. Parking in Rome was at a premium. Restaurant meals in Italy have a different order of courses to what we are used to. Each meal starts with breads, followed by an antipasto dish, then pasta, salad as a separate ...

Philosophical Reflections
Immanuel Kant (22 April 1724 – 12 February 1804) was a German philosopher. He is a central figure of modern philosophy, and set the terms by which all subsequent thinkers have had to grapple. He argued that human perception structures natural laws, and that reason is the source of morality. His thought continues to hold a major influence in contemporary thought, especially in fields such as metaphysics, epistemology, ethics, political philosophy, and aesthetics. Kant's major work, the '. In simple terms,...

One more time from Greece. May 4, 2013. After Delphi we travelled north through some more grand mountain ranges and across the largest plain in Greece. We eventually arrived at the town of Meteora and behind the town some huge limestone rock formations that seemed to rise vertically for hundreds of feet from the floor of the plain. Even more amazingly, over the centuries several religious groups have established monasteries perched on the very top of these rocks – 24 in total! The final dinner for the to...
